  1. Hotels book out months in advance for graduation, at this rate you’ll just be lucky to stay within about an hour of the school. My grandparents found a hotel in Gretna, about 50 minutes out, which I think was reasonable and Gretna is really small so I don’t think it was really on the radar when a lot of people were looking. The whole city is a mess during grad week, and I think you’re kinda underestimating how bad it’ll be. Get on Hotels.com or something ASAP and start looking because I’d be surprised if there’s much that’s decently-priced left by now.

  2. ICAC investigator here- this is the answer. So many take it upon themselves to try and find information and often end up botching the case from the outset to the point that prosecution cannot happen. The alternative is that it can cause even more problems than there were from the beginning. Information collection is a two way street. Let the police handle it.

  3. Jigsaw felt more consistent with an extended episode of a television drama than a movie.

  4. Was first on-scene to a toddler drowning scene and got the child breathing again via cpr. Child is now alive and well.

  5. Not this year BUT a long time ago a certain office supply chain gave all of its employees a bound book of the history of the company in lieu of the normal bonus.

  6. As a crimes against children detective, BELIEVE YOUR CHILD!!! Spontaneous reports from children are accounts of real abuse. False reports from children are extremely rare especially with younger children. I’m not talking about children who have been coached by a pissed off other parent in a pending custody battle. I’m talking about the type of situation OP referenced. Believe your child. So many parents do not.

  7. As an avid true crime reader my biggest take away is that if you are suspected in a crime absolutely under no circumstances agree to take a polygraph. If you "fail" you're instantly put to the top of the suspect list, and if you "pass" then you're a psychopath that can pass them on your abilities as a psychopath. It's all a bunch of bull shit.

  8. Criminal Justice! Everyone who takes it thinks that is the way into the CIA, FBI, etc., but those organizations hire out of STEM. They should rename it Prison Guarding (🫢 I mean, “Correctional Officer,” lol) because that’s where they all end up.

  9. Just finished my masters in the subject and I’ll have you know I got a slight raise and can now almost make make ends meet during some months of the year. Yeah it truly is the degree for local cops 😔

  10. As an ICAC investigator, the only esteem I get is that no one else wants my job and they will do whatever I need to avoid having to work my cases. I also have a pay incentive but so do the other specialized investigators.

  11. That’s really interesting. I’ve never heard of pay incentives for specialty units (but it makes sense). Is it significant?

  12. It is pretty significant. $3 an hour extra. We have three polygraph examiners, me, and a school specialist investigator that all receive the pay incentive.

  13. My score is in the 500s and I got approved.

  14. My wife and I are both teachers. Our boys are still little, but we’ve only ever used anatomical names for this reason. People should not be ashamed of their anatomy. It’s weird and probably damaging in some way IMHO.

  15. This is absolutely the way. It makes my job as a crimes against children detective so much more forensically sound when the child can name body parts. It also works very well as a defense against predators because, typically, predators do not target children who are properly informed of their anatomy. Calling genitalia pseudonyms does nothing but add reasonable doubt unfortunately.

  16. Sparkster and Rocky Rodent come to mind

  17. Countries not staying in their own lanes.

  18. As a crimes against children investigator, I want to tell you that there is truth in the vast majority of cases. That being said, I’m not saying all cases are true. Motive is huge to me. If there is a lack of motive for the victim to falsely accuse then, more than likely, it’s true. I can count on one hand how many cases I’ve labeled as a false report of sexual abuse.

  19. I’m a crimes against children investigator. This is unfortunately an all too real story.

  20. Cops lying to you. (U.S.) They dont have to tell you theyre a cop. They can say literally anything to extract information.

  21. They can’t tell you ANYTHING per se. They can lie about the amount of evidence or the significance of evidence but they cannot threaten, promise, or coerce information.

  22. That children should be taught the correct/scientific names for their body parts. It freaks a lot of parents (and non-parents) out to imagine a 5yo say 'vagina', but teaching them words like 'cookie' or 'foofoo' just creates a sense of shame and weirdness around their own anatomy. Plus, if they (god forbid) get abused, it can be extremely difficult to get places to take a disclosure seriously if the kid says 'he/she licked my cookie', for example.

  23. I work crimes against children cases. This right here is so important. So many parents don’t understand that teaching children the proper names for things aids in not only successful prosecution of cases but also prevention in cases in the first place. A child that knows his/her own body is a child who is a much more difficult target for a predator.

  24. Specialized criminal investigator $27.75 an hour

  25. I’ve been a cop for going on fifteen years. I’m not a a patrolman anymore but I know from this from my experience when I was. Most of us, which are decent, don’t want to stop anything and simply try to strategically plan our sneaking back home to enjoy a meal with the family. That being said, yes there are absolute traffic tyrants out there, typically in the very small two-officer departments, that will absolutely cite you for anything. However, it’s usually not the fact that it’s a holiday and this is their typical pattern.
