The US called the main shortcomings of China as a superpower

Analysts of the RAND Corporation in the United States released a report on the situation of China on the world stage, in which they called the main shortcomings of the country as a superpower. This is written by RBC.

Experts assessed China’s economic power as its main trump card, and the ability to offer trade and investment partnerships to third countries is the most effective lever of influence on them. According to them, this is more effective than direct military threats or the promotion of the Chinese political model. The experts also drew attention to the fact that China is successfully developing informal ties with representatives of elites in other countries, such as Australia, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

According to the integrated rating of the power of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR), compiled by the Lowy Institute analytical center in Sydney, the United States retains the primacy in terms of influence in the APR. At the same time, despite the growing economic influence, China has limited opportunities to offer other countries an attractive development model based on original values. Therefore, according to RAND experts, it is possible to talk about the” Chinese model ” more theoretically than in practice. They believe that China does not have a clear and consistent list of measures that could be applied in another country.

According to analysts, the Chinese economy will face problems in the near future. The attractiveness of the country will decrease against the background of growing anxiety due to non-compliance with human rights. In addition, China’s attempts to strengthen its influence will be limited by the fact that the objects of its influence ” share more values with the United States than with China.”

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov listed three components of relations with China — respect, trust and mutual consideration of each other’s interests. According to Denisov, the interaction between the countries is developing ” steadily, smoothly, covers a wide range of issues.” He recalled that on July 16, Russia and China will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation. He noted that the agreement has not only not lost its significance, but has also received a new meaning in terms of ways to further develop bilateral relations.
