  1. It isn't about what a fictional character feels, though. It's a proxy. What they are trying to do is force people to act as if a belief (non-binaryism) is the truth, using social engineering. If you're compelled to use "they/them", you're compelled to validate something you may vehemently disagree with. That's a huge problem.

  2. The rules state that this subreddit isn't for questions, though. Would such a thing not encourage even more questions to be posted here?

  3. People keep mentioning this when there are complaints about mandatory heap allocation, but I don’t understand how can you use that to avoid heap allocation in the general case? How is the promise type supposed to allocate memory for an arbitrary coroutine without using the heap?

  4. Since you can pass allocators, you can for example maintain a buffer pool and pass in a linear allocator to a buffer in that pool. This avoids making a general heap allocation.

  5. It sounds like the promise type has to have a setter for the memory resource that must be invoked before the coroutine is started? That doesn’t seem practical for generators which are (AFAICT), the primary reason that people are complaining about the allocation scheme. It also seems awkward when nesting coroutine calls?

  6. I can't speak for generators, but I will say in my own use case that nesting calls, which is what happens very frequently in my code, entails nothing more than passing the allocator down to the nested coroutines.

  7. Bullshit. You don;' get to choose to drive drunk w/out consequence. Remaining willfully unvaccinated is similar. Time to update your beliefs, I guess.

  8. Avoiding drunk driving does not involve a compromise of bodily integrity, and it is an instruction to desist from an action rather than a compulsion to perform an action.

  9. Because it's not as easy as that, especially when you are dealing with a concept which has its roots in a religion. When a particular set of laws, text or other concept is portrayed as literally divine and superior to any product of man, you cannot displace it easily through rational argument.

  10. Okay? What does this have to do with Patel's lack of capability... Or their ability to resettle in foreign land? Do you believe that Afghans have never resettled successfully outside their own country because of their beliefs?

  11. Could you explain in more detail how a sincere belief and support of Sharia law entails "how they choose to lead their own lives without disrupting others"? Specifically how this belief will have absolutely no consequences, at all, for anyone other than themselves?

  12. Surely the best way to fix that is the bring the sentences up for killing a cyclist (or when a cyclist kills a pedestrian by dangerous riding).

  13. They can bring the sentences up all they want. The jury will just refuse to convict. A similar situation would apply here.

  14. It doesn't apply to anyone so long as the elite are continuing exactly as they are.

  15. There's plenty of higher-up correspondents pulling the same shit Kuenssberg is, but she gets a disproportionate amount of hate.

  16. And this is exactly the problem with you and a lot of the other posters in this thread, and it honestly boils my piss.

  17. While nipping to the shops will be some of my journeys, I can't think of many people off hand where this is their only journey ever!

  18. A rental system for vehicles seems far more efficient than everyone owning a private car for these events, which seem to be cited distressingly often by proponents of driving any time someone suggests that mass private car ownership should be curbed.

  19. No idea why this is downvoted, it's spot on. EVs are an improvement but not the main answer

  20. There are a lot of people who are very attached to their cars and will do anything in their power to avoid any suggestion that things cannot continue as they are.

  21. Certainly a very common theme on Reddit itself. The entire platform is constructed to generate this effect.

  22. Er…. Isn’t this terrorism? I mean terrorism that may be more palatable than some, but still this seems the wrong side of the line. The government is never going to give in to their “demands” for both practical and political purposes. So all they’re really doing is making things worse.

  23. Fuel duty, VAT, Stamp Duty, tV licence, road tax, council tax - none of those are factored in. The UK is awash with hidden taxes.

  24. Lmao any more yellow peril conspiracies? Are they also here to spread disease and steal our wealth?

  25. Both the effectiveness of a character for a given level of player skill (due to skill floor, skill ceiling, and all points in between) and matchup difficulty will alter the outcome.

  26. You understand that the idea of a lab leak does not require that the virus have been engineered by that lab, I assume?

  27. thank god i love arena but hated the pacman shit

  28. I found the Pac-Man version's background really distracting.

  29. If everything is balanced then every character is the same and just differs in fighting style and skin. Lame.

  30. you're right, i shouldn't be tolerant of the intolerant.

  31. Exactly which source backs up your assertion that objection to Islam is primarily proxy racism?

  32. translation " Labour is so out of touch with the majority of the British voters and is so un-willing to change that we want to rig the electoral system so that we don't get inevitably replaced"

  33. Remind me which system provides 100% of the power on 43% of the vote?

  34. Only the left should be allowed to complain!!!

  35. No, what is being said is that complaints should be considered and answered properly, instead of lazily looking at the relative volume of complaints from left and right to decide whether or not a piece is balanced.
