  1. You can leave public comments (hopefully in support of these measures) here:

  2. "Currently, Texas law does not ban canned hunting, meaning the capture and later release of a mountain lion for the purpose of hunting it. TPWD has proposed banning the act in Texas.

  3. Being a dick to prisoners doesn't help the recidivism rate. Like it might actually be cheaper to treat them like people.

  4. Ok but we’re here now and sitting this one out to let Trump and the GOP win doesn’t teach them dems a lesson, it only hurts the nation.

  5. I'll vote for Biden again but I don't think he's going to win.

  6. I live along the path of totality and the traffic is already starting to pick up in my area.

  7. I feel bad for people who spent all this money to come here and look at clouds (most likely).

  8. Hi, what ethnicity are you? Amara is an okayish name, you won't find many girls here that are named that only a selected few. Currently popular girl names in Cambodia are Nita or any combination with Nita (E.g Danita, Sokunnita, Sonita etc..) or Mey (Combination includes Bormey, Boramey, Meyly etc..)

  9. I like Sonita! Thanks for the suggestions. I'm white American.

  10. I assume Trump will win Texas again, but I'm still going to vote. I'm trying to get in the habit of just voting no matter what.

  11. If Texas was ever going to secede that time has passed with more of our population living in cities/suburbs than ever before, a lot of our population being born out-of-state, and so on. Plus, Texas doesn't really have a unique culture compared to red states generally. Buc-ees doesn't count as culture. So we're not Quebec or Catalonia.

  12. If NK went free agent, China would invade NK and get to Pyongyang before the US could imo. The buffer state has gotta exist. Whether the Kim family rules the buffer state is besides the point.

  13. Democrats should support a non-binding referendum on independence just to put the issue to bed imo. Call the bluff of Republicans.

  14. My question is how are they collecting signatures in order to put something on the ballot? I was under the impression that in the state of Texas voters could not legally put together signatures to add an item to the election without the approval first of Texas state congress. Am I missing something?

  15. It was for a Republican primary initiative.

  16. I mean, the demographics certainly aren't there for Texas secession. Biden won 46.48% of the vote here in 2020. And I'd wager most Trump voters aren't secessionists. Secession is hard for places like Catalonia and Scotland to pull off w/ much more favorable voter demographics.

  17. Creationists should not be allowed to run for office.

  18. Banning creationists from political office is a sure way to help evangelicals justify their (often misguided) sense of oppression.

  19. The Nature Conservancy's Black Mesa Preseve is great. The state park is also nice.

  20. "Tonkawa Tribe of Oklahoma Chief and President Russell Martin expressed the tribe’s joy at reclaiming their land.

  21. Somaliland doesn't control all of its claimed borders AFAIK. What version of Somaliland do we recognize?

  22. I've thought a lot about this. You could leave Palo Duro and Caprock Canyons as state parks and have a huge national recreation area connecting them, encompassing the rest of Palo Duro Canyon, Tule Canyon etc. The Dan Flores book on the canyonlands was really influential to me.

  23. Three Percenters. Basically, they believe that it only took around 3% of American Colonists fighting to defeat the British during the Revolution. They are the 3% today who want to demolish the government as it currently stands and think they have the ability to do so if pushed too far.

  24. And also the French and Spanish empires lol.

  25. That's a wild claim given the importance of Chicago for migratory birds skirting Lake Michigan. Cats aren't just eating pigeons.

  26. I don't think the claim that the Karankawa still exist as a political entity should be taken at face value. Do any federally recognized tribes recognize the various Karankawa heritage groups as being indigenous? As far as I know, none do. Not every heritage group claiming to originate in a particular tribal nation actually is. For example, all the heritage groups claiming to be Cherokee that are denounced by actual Cherokee governments.

  27. I think status changes are mainly about keeping local chambers of commerce happy and not so much about resource protection. At least in cases like this where the land is already a NPS unit.

  28. If Florida is a solid red state now, I don't understand why Democrats would continue to support embargo.

  29. The Taliban won the war. At some point, even the US will recognize it if it stays in power long enough imo. Kind of like Vietnam.

  30. Sweden is almost an island in a sea of NATO at this point anyway, except for that little maritime border with Russia off Kaliningrad.

  31. “Still occupied” even tho Israel pulled out in 2005.

  32. The US isn't blockading Cuba and doesn't control it's airspace/borders etc. The occupation of Guantanamo Bay is a bit awkward.

  33. Guantanamo is "occupied" under a long term lease.

  34. Obviously the US isn't going to give up Guantanamo lest it be used by Russia, but when the host government doesn't want us there it is awkward. The government we signed the lease with doesn't exist.

  35. The people protesting in the US and going to bat for Hamas/Palestine would not be welcome or treated well at all over there. I don’t understand their thought process.

  36. I think, in part, it's the natural tendency of the left to root for the perceived underdog. I'm on the left, too, so I get it. But I think vocalizing support for Hamas is misguided. Those videos are horrifying.

  37. I think maybe a better position is to support Israel, but after the present threat is dealt with, pressure Israel to resolve the Palestinian issue one way or the other. Whether that's 2 states or 1, whatever Israel wants. Israel has won and Hamas won't change that. The US has no reason to turn its back on Israel now.
