Skiceless

  1. Dude in TJ if you come up to anyone and ask them if they want shrimp tacos they will think of the battered ones.

  2. I didn’t say that people would think gobernador or enchilado tacos when asked if they want a taco de camarón. I was pointing out both are pretty common to get in Tijuana, and both contain cheese. You’re the one being obtuse about it

  3. You edited your comment I see, and no one has said battered tacos come with cheese. You were the one saying it’s not common to find any shrimp tacos with cheese and others including myself have pointed out you were wrong

  4. If you’re flying anywhere in Mexico, flying from Tijuana and using CBX is a must. Even returning and crossing to the US isn’t hard, without GE it might take 10 minutes and with GE, you’ll cross immediately.

  5. Flying anywhere in Latin America is much cheaper out of TIJ, not just Mexico

  6. From your post history I can see you’re probably an artist of your own. So my guess is that you gave these artists a listen, realized these artists have actual talent compared to your ambient music and got defensive by saying they’re not obscure and laughing at me. Have a nice day.

  7. Both have over half a million monthly listeners on Spotify, and their tracks have been streamed tens of millions of times. This places them firmly in the not obscure list

  8. You can download an eSIM app and use a virtual sim. I like Nomad. Just looking at plans for UK, you can get a new line with 10 GB data for $15. That should be more than enough data for travel so long as you save scrolling Reddit or social media for when you’re connected to WiFi. If you happen to have T-Mobile, you have free international roaming so your phone will work there. If you still want a physical SIM, all the other major carriers have international day passes which are $5-10 per day I believe, so worst case you could get a day pass for when you arrive so your phone will work while you track down a SIM

  9. Well this style of cooking meat is called suadero which refers to the meat being sweated in its own juices. The style of tortilla is usually just preparada en aceite but that could be any oil. You would have to go to a place that sells suadero specifically to have them this way. Most good Mexico City style tacos shops will soak their tortillas in some kind of oil. It’s really more regional than anything. I’m from Monterrey so I’m not really sure if they have a name of this in Mexico City. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question in a direct manner.

  10. Suadero isn’t a cooking style, it’s a cut of beef from between the belly and leg. It’s cooked confit, or slow braised in fat

  11. So I have a feeling a lot of the replies you'll see here are from the UK

  12. You can transfer money in the US between all the major banks on their banking app. If it’s between the same bank it’s usually instant, between two different banks it’s usually 1-3 business days. Most do charge a fee between 2 different banks, some don’t. There isn’t a fee to use Venmo to send money to someone. The only fee they charge is to instantly transfer that money to your bank, it’s free to transfer the slow way, which is 1-3 business days. You can also just keep the money in the Venmo account and use that to pay for things online at no additional charge. Pointless apps to have in my opinion

  13. Thanks for this, you've given a lot more information than some of the replies which are more along the lines of "no you're wrong and I won't clarify"

  14. I will add they don’t make it easy to find the transfer option, at least on one of my two banks, and there are hundreds of small banks that probably don’t have that option. Most don’t seem to even know it’s an option, which I’d say it’s more to Venmo and the like and their marketing than the banks. And the banks will find hundreds of other ways to charge you money, like charging you for checks or for the audacity put your money into a checking account

  15. To answer part 3, you wouldn’t even be done at Jeune by 8 PM if you have a 5 PM reservation. And it’s a 30+ minute drive from Jeune to Ichifuji. In my opinion, that’s a lot of food, but not outrageous. Personally, I’d pick one of the two sushi options instead of eating sushi twice in a day

  16. Those people don’t even eat chic fil a because of its southern roots. Good luck with that my friend.

  17. lol it has nothing to do with its Southern roots, it was because of that company’s stance against LQBTQ+, which was like 10 years ago the whole country was up in arms about and forgot about a week later. I can assure you Chik-fil-a is everywhere in LA and be prepared for at least a 20 minute wait because it’s so busy

  18. It's all pretty bad, but if you've got to order one, the Paloma is probably the least worst.

  19. The cantarito is actually made correctly and those are great

  20. Someone ordered a snakebite from me the other day and I made him the shot with Yukon Jack and roses lime juice I had no idea there was a separate drink that’s an appalling combination of Guinness and Pear cider. Never seen 2 drinks with the same name that were so wildly different.

  21. A snakebite is lager and cider, a Guinness and cider is a Poor Man’s Black Velvet, sometimes shortened to Black Velvet, though technically a Black Velvet is Guinness and champagne

  22. I find the comments here humorous, in the article they talk about the dark propagation of the mission style burrito, which uses rice and beans as filler, and how people in San Diego don't like filler.

  23. What you describe as a Colorado burrito is what 90% of taco shops in SD serve as a California burrito

  24. Right, but every taco shop in San Diego serves California burritos, and almost every single one is carne asada-fries-cheese-sour cream-pico. Calling it a Colorado burrito doesn’t change the fact that you just described exactly what a California burrito is

  25. You're really silly. From your context and tone, I guess good ones mean conservatives to you. Upstate is rife with them. It's hilarious that you think a whole state is a single metropolitan area.

  26. I moved from Alabama to Upstate NY. I saw way more confederate flags and camouflage and rednecks in CNY than anywhere in Alabama. And I was just there recently visiting family. It’s full on Trump country there. They’re just basing their hatred on stereotypical New Yorkers from NYC

  27. I think this is a myth, for me it causes inflammation and makes congestion worse.

  28. Capsaicin is an anti-inflammatory actually. It reduces inflammation. It’s a common ingredient in OTC arthritis topicals. It also helps clearing out mucus for nasal congestion

  29. Where I live in California, every Indian restaurant charges for rice, and we have a large Indian population so there are many restaurants

  30. Is it normal to have complimentary rice served in Indian restaurants in the US? I'm in Australia and the most we might get for free here would be water and maybe papadams if we're lucky!

  31. It’s not normal where I live in the US. Rice is always an extra charge

  32. Chow mien anywhere in the US is sautéd ‘white vegetables’ with/without animal protein.

  33. Chow mein anywhere on the west coast is what East coast calls lo mein. Ramen is Japanese and not stir fry noodles

  34. Holy cow! It’s wild! I did intake on someone who named their kid ABCDE. I asked how to pronounce it and she got all snippy and snapped ‘ab-seh-duh’. Like I was the idiot. But that seems tame compared to that sub!

  35. Boy there sure are a lot of ABCDEs running around out there since every post like this has a Redditor that knows one. Must be related to L-A

  36. Spicy city for Cantonese. Secuan peppercorns will make your mouth numb!

  37. Yes you do. San Diego just tends to blend sonoran with other regions while arizona is pure sonoran. If it's primarily thin wheat tortillas, it's sonoran.

  38. Yeah, all tacos here are corn, don’t know what you’re on about. There aren’t arrachera spots, or large chunks of sirloin, no papas rellenas, no friojoles de olla, no wakabaki, SD Mexican is just an extension of Baja cuisine with the exception of burritos but SD’s burritos aren’t like Sonora’s

  39. Tacos el Franc, Tacos el Patron, Tacos el Poblano (3 different ones) Tacos los Paisas, and to about 4-5 different corner ones on the streets. Average at best. The worst one I had was Tacos el Gordo. But the location I went to in Tijuana had all Haitians working there and the food was both flavorless and over salty. But the one in San Diego is delicious

  40. All of those are lower tier with the exception of el Franc, but they’ve slid in quality the last few years. El Gordo in TJ is straight ass. Taco-N-Todo, Tacos Salceados, El Mazateño, La Glorieta, Tacos Aaron, Tacos El Ruso, Taqueria Elvia, El Tío Pepe, just to name a few are all top tier. If you want Mexicali-style tacos, plenty of options for tacos perrones but the best is El Yaqui in Rosarito

  41. There is much better hiking in San Diego than Vegas. And of the 3, Vegas is the most expensive for food. SF and SD both have better food as well

  42. You can go into a pharmacy in Mexico and pick up anything without a prescription whether or not it’s real is another thing

  43. You can get a lot of prescription drugs over the counter in Mexico, but not hard stuff, like benzos. Those require a prescription. And the only opiate available is tramadol, which is OTC. If you’re getting anything like benzos OTC, they are 100% fake

  44. I was able to get Ambien, diazepam and Lyrica at a pharmacy in a mall in Cancun...they were expensive though. Ambien was like $100 for a box of 30.

  45. Congrats, not only did you get ripped off, you bought fake drugs

  46. I remember seeing her that episode of Extras with Ricky Gervais and she was superb in it. Not surprised she's great here.

  47. It’s the best episode of a great series. I love that she said you have to do a Holocaust movie to win an Oscar, then IRL went on to do a Holocaust movie and won an Oscar

  48. I recently went over to the towns where this was filmed. It was great for photography! It’s so damned hot and not much there at all. Kinda depressing really, couldn’t imagine living there. But it was still an awesome overnight trip
