You didn't comment on it, but your reply suggests you don't want to have to upgrade anything for eight years, so I'll note again that your speeds on that PCie 4.0 SSD will be limited until, in the future, you swap out the Intel CPU (Comet Lake) for one that supports PCie 4.0 (next gen, Rocket Lake, 2021).
In your opinion does that cause a major issue? Ie. Because it can't reach its full potential on current chipset does that make it not worth using at a reduced speed (ie. Its currently capable of 5000/4400 mbs and 750/700k, does this chipset issue drop that to 3500/300 and 650/550k for example?) Looking for your opinion on what the performance drop is because of chipset is i guess where I am going with this. Thanks!
I cant find anywhere that quantifies the handicap it gets on a PCie 3.0 CPU but, in the context of getting the most value for your money, yes, I would consider buying an SSD that can't live up to its advertised speeds in the system it will be paired with a major issue. I, personally, thought so and cancelled/reordered with a different SSD at the last second because of it. If you plan to replace your CPU with a Rocket Lake model next year, that's a different story.
Sorry for late reply! Did some digging on this. So it will be capped at 3.0 performance. Which isn't terrible and ifc/when rocket lake comes out it will be fully capable. So looks like at some point next year I will need to upgrade CPU to get the most out of it. But otherwise it should still perform at 3.0 speeds until new chipset :) thanks again for all your help!
