Check out the album Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada. It is far more psychedelic but it uses sampling in similarly interesting and creative ways and also features a lot of hip hop drums
For people saying this is bait, Michael Jackson came in and made the industry better. Madonna came in and made the industry better. Prince came in and made the industry better. Kanye came in and made the industry better. What has the Beatles done on that caliber? Let's be honest, none. They were just a moment. The people I mentioned were like something music needed during that time.
They are two of my favorite tracks but i agree that they are pretty melancholic and they have an almost existentialist feeling imo. I don't think they sound soulless at all tho, there is a lot of emotion in both of those songs
Genetic is such a beautiful track and one of their most personal songs. Lee wrote it about his son and the lyrics are maybe the most pure and sweet lyrics of any SY song. The track being cut as well as some personal issues led to him considering leaving the group.
I fucking hate rap. They don’t create music, they sample it from real musicians. They don’t sing, they talk, but if they do song it’s only with the use of autotune. The drums are fake. I hate everything about it.
I like it, especially in the context of the album. It feels like the climax of all the experimentation and genre-jumping of the white album and i don't think Good Night would work nearly as well as a closer if not for the chaos of Rev. 9 before it
Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Great stuff. Love seeing Joni there twice. I'm interested to know what went into the song choices for the artists that they have mentioned

TVC15, Subterraneans, Sweet Thing suite
It's my favorite of his solo tracks. I'm generally more drawn to John's songwriting but RAM is such an incredible beautiful album

All of the artists you mentioned has benefited from the innovations of The Beatles and been influenced by them either directly or indirectly
Lady Grinning Soul - David Bowie

Yeah that'd be fun
A Day In The Life
I think most of the lyrics to Glass Onion don't really mean anything other than some fun references to their previous songs
Axis: Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix

I'm not the biggest fan of rap but i really disagree with this
I don’t recall it being in Lost Highway. It’s not listed on the soundtrack to that film either.
I believe it's used during the last sex scene in Lost Highway
Dress Rehearsal Rag by Leonard Cohen
Joni Mitchell

Dots and Loops
Both can be true. Yes, Walter did save Jesse's life but he also constantly abused and manipulated Jesse
Decomposing Trees - Galaxie 500
I'd probably replace Jeff with Joni Mitchell for my favorite melancholic folk artists
Now that is a holy trinity I could really lovingly listen to and cry get behind! Which is your favourite Joni Mitchell record?
Hejira followed by Blue and The Hissing of Summer Lawn but i really love nearly all her albums. What's your favorite?
Marquee Moon, The Velvet Underground, The white album
