  1. It's a lot of things, some of which we can easily quantify based on available data, and some of which we can only speculate about.

  2. I think you're neglecting the impact of the swing in interest rates. We went from rates in the 2% range to rates in the 7% range in a very short time window.

  3. It's also done with communication which is absolutely key in this. Don't leave it up to one person, both need to be involved and communicating about bills and at the very least purchases with a heftier price tag.

  4. Right. If my GF wants to buy an expensive cut for dinner and I'm broke, I just say "I can't afford that right now". If she really wants it, she'll buy it anyway and pay the difference herself. If she doesn't, we get chicken or something. Same for her when she's tighter on cash and I'm not.

  5. My girlfriend and I have live together for 3 years, we've always just played it by ear. Every time we track it closely we end up Venmoing the same $1k back and forth over a few months anyway. If you were to track it closely, here's what I'd suggest.

  6. If you have any interest in creating YouTube content for this it might be a solid second monetization stream. You don't even need to release the videos right now, but if you start filming timelapses of the painting process now and recording your inspirations/techniques you'll have a huge bucket of content to pull from down the road.

  7. Upstate NY is nice, and depending on where you choose you'd be close-ish to Montreal which is fun.

  8. Loads. They just had a hiring day on the 14th to fill all the openings, something like 600 people got interviewed.

  9. I feel like that really invites some kind of "nah, they aren't, I am smart, and you are a bitch" response lol

  10. Even those that have salaries which reach 200k a year are struggling. Inflation has kicked our asses as well as gas prices.

  11. If someone is struggling on a $200k salary it's because they are financially irresponsible. I live in a HCOL area, prices maybe 5-10% under Boston, and I live quite comfortably on $105k. I have no idea how someone making $95k more a year would struggle unless they spend their money frivolously.

  12. I live in Vermont and take home ~$3k biweekly. In a long term relationship but not married, no kids.

  13. If a treatment existed to make your brain no longer expect a male body, would you undergo it or do you consider your identity so strongly tied to being male that such a treatment would essentially kill who you are right now?

  14. Bruh the problem is your wife spends too much money. You're married, forget the concept who foots the bill for what. You both foot the bill for everything.

  15. Why not just walk him through the math? It should be fairly easy to demonstrate that with your current spend rate and savings rates, extrapolated out over your careers, you'll end up with a pretty enormous retirement fund. Then do the math on how much per month you'll be able to draw down from that.

  16. A recommendation for you that you may have read, published in my birth year, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. I only just read it, but it sums up the philosophy I feel is at play in daily life. Thanks for the recs, maybe your husband will read Ishmael too.

  17. Liked a lot of these other book but I kinda hated Ishmael. Not sure why it gets such rave reviews, it seemed to push a lot of statements as fact that were outright false.

  18. I have no idea why that park gets attention, I'd never want to hang out there with the crazy traffic there. TBH just make it look nice and leave it alone. Plant some flowers, whatever. Who wants to hang out in the middle of a roundabout though?

  19. You live in NH, have you looked for teaching jobs in MA? Their teachers are some of the best paid in the country.

  20. I never cared in the first place. I get 2nd hand android phones from ebay and keep them till they don't work anymore. The idea of dropping a months pay on a phone that will be outdated in a year is actually wild to me.

  21. Over time the trends for these are almost always one way. It usually only ever goes male -> female. Similar there's a trend of upper class -> lower class for names.

  22. Ok I will try that. But it's sort of frustrating that I have to do this, when a basic tenet of a relationship is effort on both sides. Even in this instance, I am the one who has to put in effort to communicate with her.

  23. They said they love it. You’re currently sleeping. Read it again

  24. They are states that make attempts to qualify the homeless population? Something tells me Mississippi and West Virginia have plenty of homelessness, but since they don't have robust support programs to support them they probably also don't have a robust ability to measure the number of homeless people.
