  1. What format are these layers? If they are part of a database (postgre/postgis, .gpkg, etc) then you can query them in the db manager, before, or without ever, opening them on the canvas.

  2. Make sure you always try everything with disposable dataset copies for the first time. In a sandbox.

  3. When discussing with other GIS folks, "shapefile" = .shp (plus associated .shx, .prj, etc.). Feature class is a feature class in a GDB or SDE. This is the norm at my workplace too.

  4. This is usually my approach, too. Sorry about the "us and them" mentality, but it is what it is.

  5. The associated bits (index .shx, attribute .dbf etc) can also make it confusing for non-geospatial people. "Send me the shapefile" to many means 'send the .shp'

  6. Such a hassle when it happens. Gotta be extremely explicit when giving instructions to non-GIS coworkers.

  7. Zelda Link to the Past is so much fun! I'm 43 and my 2 boys (12 & 9) love Nintendo and we are going over the old games. We are currently doing this game and they love it!

  8. Maybe instead of hiding the Application Status header you could work this around by grouping the layers on the left column, adding a header to the group but leaving it blank? Or coloring its content white?

  9. "Shapefile" is something Ill probably always use.

  10. I usually use the word "layer" if I am speaking generically like "yeah send me that layer when you have a chance" or "you can download that layer from this data portal". If I am in a specific workflow, I might say things like "send the shapefile" or "there's a feature class X in the feature dataset Y in this SDE DB/FGDB".

  11. Good one! TY! Also, I've made a comment adding context

  12. You can create different styles. (Double click on the layer and at the bottom you see the "Load style" drop down menu) Just save the current style under a different name and change the filters.

  13. You're suggesting I filter at the symbol representation settings, with rules or categories, right? It's a great idea, thanks!

  14. Just like any guitarist/singer or pianist/singer knows, it's just a matter of practice. Lots of it. And a good learning plan.

  15. That's good to hear, Is there a technical term for this technique that I could google...?

  16. Try learning bossa nova. What's your main instrument to sing along?

  17. If you want to achieve a genuine audible effect, at 0.03 cent differences you are really not doing much, it's still practically a perfect tuning. For chorus/unison/lo-fi effects you can go several full cents before the sound starts breaking down, especially with a perfectly tuned layer as harmonic reference (different people will have a different limit, you can find your own limit first and then lower it back down).

  18. That's right, any ensemble of almost-perfectly-tuned string instruments is always playing well within those limits, or even much bigger ranges.

  19. Hey, OP, please flair your post as Solved once you consider it adequately answered

  20. Hey, no need for that kinda language, mate. After all "those damned bastards" didn't lie to you specifically, don't take it personally, this isn't

  21. Interesting question. I'm pretty sure it's doable since I've done something similar before, but cannot for the life of me remember how I did it.

  22. Copy and paste into the main database at that point?

  23. I think so. Next you'd begin to locate the ones you do want to have a geometry.

  24. I think the PPG guys, whoever they might be, should add the giant angel statue to their tower. Is their chairman one Mr. Karras?

  25. Be careful for the meanings of words, brother. For the scribes whose task it is to copy those ancient texts by hand, they are but the copier of copies scribed long ago. If someone were to make an error, it would go unnoticed for generations to come.

  26. And thusly, he becameth a wailing, teeth-gnashing, shaft-shaker...

  27. I thought it was an inner joke, like when old Wolfenstein had broken English in a German accent.

  28. Topology Checker plugin, for instance.

  29. Your post was unduly removed by Reddit's filters. Could be because of the video.

  30. Following your more serious note, yes to all + AuDHD (according to my psychologist, because we don't have tests because 3rd world).

  31. I myself am a whole "Rust in Peace" on repeat kind of guy. Never fails!
