Today, most any bike in fair running shape is worth $2,000-$3,000. The older Sporties probably gained some value when Harley finally dropped them old design and started building them with the new engine. Personally, I don't miss the Evo based Sportster. It was time for that old design to die.
You will find dealers of many brands will not work on bikes of a certain age regardlessthe brand. A "rare" Buell 1125R, and it doesn't surprise me at all that no dealer will touch it. You need to find an independent shop or figure it out on your own. Very few 1125Rs were built, the bike is 16 years old.
Maybe it depends what year model it is. Just did a quick wiki and Buell was built by Harley from 03-09/10 and then they were discontinued and the original Buell guy took back over and started selling production bikes under the Buell badge again 21, maybe just a couple bikes were built from 10-21 mostly off road racing bikes.
Most motorcycle dealers, not just Harley, will not work on older bikes. 2008, plus Buell, plus crappy parts availability are reasons why. Plus, they probably keep the shop busy working on newer bikes.
As for asking prices, well, you can ask for any price, so guys asking high prices doesn't mean anything. Call your bank, give them the VIN, and ask what loan and retail price is with their information.

If she truly wanted to lose weight, she could do it. Before anyone says anything, I have PCOS, so I have a medical condition that affects my weight. If I can lose weight with it, just by cutting calories, she can as well.
My guess is the sharp corner and an unexpected severe incline caught most riders unprepared and in too high of gear. With a severe incline rolling that slowly, if you pull in the clutch to down shift, the bike just stops. I ran across a corner like this on a Harley Ultra Classic, packed heavy for vacation, with my wife on back. The corner was a very sharp hair pin and crazy slope to the side. I was in 2nd gear and realized the bike wouldn't climb it at the RPM the engine was at. I was able to clutch and shift to first, but I had to do it quickly. The bike had almost stopped when I let the clutch out again. If I had missed the shift, there was no way I could have kept the bike upright as the road sloped to the side a lot. My foot would have been six inches or more below the tires. It was a real pucker moment. A couple of years later, I was on the same road and downshifting to first coming up to the corner. I was surprised as they had rebuilt the road, widened, and flattened the corner out. Super easy.
I watched three plumber's do the same deal on a 1-1/2" water line they could not shut off. All three wore rain gear. Afterward, all three were soaking wet. They were laughing that the rain gear was a waste of time. They did it much faster than these three!
You need to ask your current insurance company. A Yamy R7 will cost more than a Tenere 700. Smaller CCs will be less. A bad driving record isn't help. Location is also a big deal. I moved 3 miles into a different state, and my insurance dropped by half.
It is the chance you take any time you do "mail order". Even the shipping company might screw it up. If I need something right now, I will try to buy it locally. If I order online, I assume it will be at least a week, and maybe two weeks for it to show up. If it gets here sooner, great!

One guy I know has owned the same motorcycle for over twenty years. Some years it never gets rolled out of the garage. Some years he gets a wild hair and rolls it out, gets it running, runs to the gas station, and parks it back in the garage. That is his riding for the year. I am pretty certain he has never put over 100 miles on the bike in one year. I know the motorcycle does not have over 1,000 miles on it. A good friend of mine has some medical issues that restricts how much he rides, but he gets out a few times a year and might get 1,000 miles a year. Some guys ride a lot, some guys run to the corner bar and back.
Yes, it is a crappy deal. but what many don't see that even if she is still on the lease and responsible for half the rent, if she stops paying, he is still on the hook for the full amount. If the land lord doesn't get the rent by a certain date they will see it as a breach of the lease and probably start eviction. They won't let him live there if the rent isn't paid up.

Yeah , I’ve looked at both and see bike priced high $10-12k and bikes $5-7k I figured the 10 and over guys were smoking crack.
