I think it had a really intriguing premise, and Rocky is wonderful (and his and Ryland’s friendship was really sweet.) But the actual writing was just ok. Anyone expecting a great work of literature is reading the wrong book. Same thing with The Martian - was the writing really compelling? I’d say no, but the movie was really fun.

I think he is also very good at dumbing down complex science so it’s easier to understand
