  1. La Vaissellerie, rue Saint Antoine. Small, rather cosy shop. Has a lot for all Parisians.

  2. He says it’s the gag reflex. He’s only 7. I told him he could actively stretch his palate and really say “ah” rather than collapsing into the swab but he didn’t want to try that.

  3. A dentist once taught me a trick to suppress my gag reflex: While the mouth is open, stick your tongue out and pant like a dog. Sorry, I don’t know how to explain it. No need to move the tongue up and down like a dog. Just keep it still and pant out. Don’t breathe in. I did this for a few seconds, just long enough to let the dentist do what he had to do, and it worked!

  4. Surprisingly, your nasal cavity goes straight back, not up. So you want to hold the bottle horizontally and go in. It dripping down the back of your throat is normal and means it’s coating your nasal passage.

  5. Are you tilting your head back when you spray?

  6. I miss opportunities. I didn’t know which to take but at least there were many.

  7. To add more confusion, “lay” can also be present tense when used in the context of putting/setting something down. Example: Lay that blanket on the floor. And the past tense of that is “laid.”

  8. In both case I'll say "les élastiques". In French using word for word translation on those words will lead to confusion, boucle d'oreille is an earring, and bandeau is for your hair or eyepatch.

  9. It turns out bride coulissante is correct.

  10. Wasn't sure TBH. After some googling ear loops are "élastiques" (tout simplement). Headband is probably "bride coulissante".

  11. i can't smoke indica, it affects my body and i get anxiety. sativa is wonderful. totally all in my head and i can laugh and enjoy myself. laughter is the best medicine!~

  12. I can’t do sativa because it gives me the munchies and I’ve eaten an entire cake by myself. Too fattening!

  13. I don’t like how potent it is now. Totally caught me off guard. Holy shit. And don’t get me started on edibles. Yikes! They’re so unpredictable.

  14. Probably gonna get down voted for this but depending on where you are and what the communication is for, you can also say « la covid »

  15. What region is this? Also, is “Covid”feminine?

  16. Long story. According to the académie française, Covid is féminin. In practice, most people say le Covid in every day speech. Once the académie published its decision, journalists and health orgs started using it in feminine form. The Quebec equivalent of the académie also says it’s féminin, but Quebec often feminizes word borrowed from English where France masculinises them (la job vs le job, for instance).

  17. Thanks for the explanation. I had no idea how English words are typically made masculine or feminine, depending on region. Interesting.

  18. I don't think that Discord is any harder than any other application to learn. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to connect with my buddies, but we figured that out fairly quickly.

  19. I hate it when my current apps update and they change things so drastically that I have to Google how to something I’ve done hundreds of times before. But the Google search results are for the previous version of the app!!

  20. Two weeks between "huh, I feel almost human again" and the vacc.

  21. So you got the vaccine 2 weeks after you stopped being Covid positive? I got Covid recently and my doc said I need to wait 3-6 months to get the latest vaccine. I want to get it sooner.

  22. I tested positive only once, near the very end of being actively sick. Mostly I never made snot at all. However my husband brought Covid home and sure enough a week later I felt like I got hit by a truck -- anything he gets, I get.

  23. So Kaiser said it’s okay to get the vaccine even if you still have Covid?

  24. Un [macaron] de chaque [sorte/goût/couleur]. Words in brackets are optional when they're already conveyed by the context.

  25. Thanks. For macaron flavors, can I say parfum?

  26. Un exemplaire de chaque livre de Stephen King. Yes, it's correct but you need room in your library for that.

  27. The space thing might be strange for you but be considerate of how long you spend in the bathroom, amount of hot water, having your things in a toiletries bag so not to take up too much space etc.

  28. Water and electricity are quite expensive in France, so definitely try to take quick showers.

  29. I’ve always been easily annoyed so there’s no change for me.

  30. It’s organized well, just come 15 mins before train and look at the big board

  31. Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by how much easier it was than Gare de Lyon station in Paris. I used the SBB app to see the platform in advance, but then I just verified it on the display board about 20 to 30 minutes before departure. The SNCF app doesn’t tell you the platform and it’s not as user friendly as the SBB app.

  32. The platform will be displayed well in advance, both online and at the station, contrary to most countries. Double-check it anyway a few minutes before you leave, but it's extremely rare that the platform changes. No turnstiles either, the ticket is checked while on the train.

  33. Thanks. It sounds a lot easier than at the French stations.

  34. https://www.relay.com/buy-french-sim-card-airport/

  35. I also started masking at home in common areas since I live with three other people who still go out and about without any caution.

  36. What do you do when you have to shower or brush your teeth? Do you have an air filter for the bathroom?

  37. I may be wrong but I assume a senior in prison wouldn’t have to worry about getting beaten up or raped by the other inmates? I hear the prisons in Japan are clean, safe and have good food. There have been reports of impoverished Japanese seniors committing crimes, just so they could have free housing and food.

  38. Don’t forget Corinthian leather!

  39. Damn that Mr Roarke misled us!

  40. Truth! I feel like this used to be a grocery bakery standard but now it’s like finding gold. (I’m not a baker or I’d try it, but mannnn when you find a nice big cake, it’s heaven!)

  41. I don’t bake either but I think it could be easily assembled. I googled the recipe and it looks like you can buy a chocolate cake (or bake it from a mix), brush it with kirch liqueur, add cherry sauce (store bought or simmer some cherries with sugar) and add a layer of whipped cream. Then put on another layer of cake and top it with whipped cream and garnish with cherries. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d give a try.

  42. ... O'Tacos enter the tchat ...

  43. It's from Lyon and it's disgusting.

  44. It looks pretty disgusting and weird.

  45. I don't have an alternative but my 2c is that Airbnb is "worse" in the US than it is internationally from my personal experience.

  46. All the Airbnbs I’ve stayed at in Europe so far have been spotlessly clean, while the ones I’ve stayed at in the US weren’t so. They were clean at first glance and even smelled like bleach, but I found things like spiderwebs in the cupboards, filthy/crusty/rusty ovens, food splatters in the microwave oven etc.

  47. I am definitely for self checkout. Love not having to make small talk!
