Are you able to raise your arms above your head? With structural kyphosis, depending on how severe the curve is, because the kyphosis does not reduce completely even with extension, the range of motion of your arms is shifted to be less when raising them above your head. Internally your scapula are rotated forward, so forward flexion range of motion will be less and extension going behind you will be more. If a person with a normal spine slouches they shouldn't be able to raise their arms above their head either and they'll have the same effect. The difference is of course that no matter how straight I appear to stand, I still have an internal slouch.

so if you stand up as completely straight as you can and you still have a slouch / forward head does that show a sign of structural?
