Used to be there would be a person who fixed radios and TV’s, someone else might do washing machines, obviously there’d be a lot of odd job people for things around the house you didn’t want to get a contractor for, there were a lot of home IT people too.

I mean ethically they should feel some sense of chagrin pursuing a career purely for their monetary gain (often at the expense of others) in a world where other people are sweating blood to help others
Not if they’re that kind of person they won’t. Everyone’s ethics and morals are different; many people have no qualms at all about how they make money, regardless of how other people feel about it. It’d only really be surprising if we expected everyone to have a similar moral code, but nothing about society leads me to that conclusion
I don’t really understand the point of cocaine in Australia. Wherever I’ve tried it from anywhere it’s utter trash, i swear half of it is talc and sweeteners. It used to be that your morale would be chipped away gradually over time, but lately, things like RTO mandates that make no sense and new technically legal policies that still make people in specific groups feel like shit are providing a faster way to get people quit without severance or unemployment eligibility.
The only problem is it’s always the best & most motivated people who go because they can easiest get another job. We went through a few rounds of this at work in teams adjacent to mine over the last year and honestly a lot of my interactions now feel like I’m having to work with lazy dumb dumbs because everyone who knew stuff or was proactive has gone.
He had a good run where he didn’t have to do anything at all to seem better than the last two, but eventually ‘better a solid turd than the squits’ turns into ‘hmm this is still far too much shit’
