  1. In the US many, if not most, Native Americans refer to themselves as Indians. I'm assuming from your username that you, like I, are Canadian and we don't but it isn't an offensive term in the US. Someone else can feel free to correct me but I have read and heard this many times.

  2. ‘Inadvertently’ is absolutely not the right word. The settlers wanted the space and resources, and they wanted to get rid of the natives. Death was as good as banishment or slavery, but let’s not kid ourselves that it wasn’t a favourable outcome for them, and one they encouraged.

  3. Considering that the vast majority of indigenous peoples were killed by diseases to which they were not immune, 'inadvertently' most certainly is an appropriate word. And no, I am not denying that many were killed, banished, or enslaved too, just not anywhere near the majority of the population that existed prior to contact.

  4. I did and I loved it. Unfortunately, it died and now I have a shelf full of excellent 3D Blu-rays I can't watch because no one makes the TVs even though the cost to include 3D is tiny.

  5. I still have mine but now the glasses are really expensive, probably because no one needs them anymore.

  6. IT is realizing you’re surrounded by idiots, then also realizing you’re someone else’s idiot, so we should all just try to be civil with each other and solve the problem together

  7. It's not MAGA that's worries the democrats, but many independents also believe Trump is being treated unfairly. And they aren't wrong. The only cases to go to court are the new York civil case and the Manhattan criminal case, both which are extremely and obvious political cases. The legitimate cases are held up. But even the most significant of the legitimate cases, the Georgia case, has a DA that can't help but be publicly partisan and make the case look political.

  8. If nothing else, the fact that all of the cases, however justified, coincidently came together in an election year bolsters the argument that it is political.

  9. They are probably storing it whether you check the box or not

  10. That's a good way for a company to lose their ability to support credit cards.

  11. BUT you couldn't easily look someone up by phone number and reverse directories were hard to find.

  12. Reverse directories were easy to get - you just had to pay for them. My old company had several.

  13. I don’t even care if I count as old , but I cannot understand what type of person thinks a 30 yr old and 50yr old have the same hobbies. Other than exercise and hobbies you can do at any age.

  14. That's a weird take. Most hobbies you can do in your 30s you can still do in your 50s.

  15. Yup. You could tell instantly when operations merged. Prices increased and selection decreased.

  16. How far back was that? I moved here in 2013.

  17. 16 year old me acquired it by slamming down 12 ounce cans in one go. I also tried out different flavors once I got old enough to buy my own beer.

  18. Funny, 16 year old me learned to hate it the same way!

  19. Not sure why you were downvoted. Not everything tastes the same to every person.

  20. I don't know why attacks from left-leaning commenters have to always be so personal, attacking things like looks, weight, clothes, whatever. It shows a really ugly side to them that makes me not want to support them even when I agree with their positions.

  21. Had a similar moment at a car show years ago where the salesman pointedly showed my wife (I was literally standing next to her) the ease with which shopping bags could put into the hatch area. She was earning roughly double what I earned at the time and was running eight figure dollar projects.

  22. Dawn is so good it put nearly every competitor out of the market. There used to be dozens and dozens of competitors, but the Dawn grease cutting ads were ridiculously effective. Now most stores carry an entire shelf of Dawn derivatives, with only a few bottles of generic or low-cost alternatives.

  23. Is this an American thing? I use Sunlight. Costco even sells it.

  24. 12 year old me would have laid down in traffic for the same scenario

  25. I honestly don't think you would have to go that far for creepy guy to look up your skirt.

  26. I burst out laughing when he took his helmet off and it was Adam from GIRLS the entire time. No one else in the theatre thought it was funny.

  27. Yeah, heart, new ideas, some good world building, terrific costumes and music

  28. Isn't there outrage about every casting choice in Batman movies?

  29. Keaton was the first since the 60s TV show though. That movie was a big deal.

  30. She has a whole tiktok account where she’s shown herself restoring it since like 2021

  31. Why are so many people dedicated to dissing her on this?

  32. Pretty funny that people think of pirating as one song at a time like in the limewire days. Now you can download an artist's entire discography in a few minutes with one link.

  33. Great, more stuff I'll never have time to listen to.

  34. Whoa...Movie is on right now - on THIS scene !

  35. That is interesting! But I think it kind of proves my point. If we could spot that thing from 40 light-years away, it would be pretty tough to miss one orbiting the sun, which would be much less than one light-year away.

  36. Maybe it's orbiting opposite the sun and is at the right distance that it's always behind the sun.

  37. Yeah I don't get it either... It would be making a new lower lower class. Where anyone who is able to find literally ant job had a full salary worth of disposable income more than the people who just have UBI, while people who don't are stuck with the bare minimum and no way to better their situation.

  38. Yes, that is exactly my concern about it. It's the creation of a permanent underclass that will exist at the whim of those smart enough or lucky enough to have jobs/power.

  39. A UBI isn't going to give someone enough money to engage in entrepreneurial activities. Its right there in the "B"

  40. I don't know why anyone is in favor of UBI. "A guaranteed minimum wage income for everyone in exchange for a society with no jobs." Sounds like utopia. /s

  41. I am somewhat disturbed that I know all the words. I am Canadian.
