  1. I never said they didn’t. HIV was/is a different beast than most other STDs though, since it had a 100% fatality rate for a good while there

  2. Ok, I actually managed to fix this somehow. For anyone experiencing this problem who happens upon this post, here’s how I did it. Note, again this is on OS X.

  3. Cargo cult "fixes" don't count. Better off switching to a more stable native filesystem that doesn't shit itself randomly.

  4. Lol. “Cargo cult”? Because I went over the steps I took that solved my problem? Lord forgive me for committing such blasphemy. Would you rather I just said “nvm fixed” instead?

  5. Barely begins to describe it. The cause of death was asphyxiation so I assumed it would have come fairly quickly, an hour or two at most. But 11… that’s one of the most horrifying things I can imagine. Why do I poison my mind with this shit jfc

  6. Why is every oil/gas rich country in the Middle East so fucking evil? Huge wealth inequality within the population, corruption, human rights violations.

  7. Weaponizing religion to control the masses. If the Quran says society should be a certain way, then it has to be that way, end of discussion. What are you going to do, argue with the big guy in the sky?

  8. Corporate headquarters of this giant privately owned mega-corporation in Atlanta. Soulless, robotic people. Hard to explain the atmosphere but sort of a "work will set you free" kind of vibe. Creepiest place I've ever been.

  9. They scare me. They own more companies than anyone knows.

  10. Downvote me. I dont want your upvotes if you support rapists and open white supremacists.

  11. I’m not a fan of either, but you understand the concept of separating the art from the artist, right?

  12. Eddie Van Halen’s useless guitar solos.

  13. I’m sorry. While it hasn’t happened to me personally, my mum lost her dad suddenly and unexpectedly when she was 11, and I’ve seen and heard what that did to her family, it’s heart wrenching... That was in the 1970s though. The benefit of living in 2022 is that mental health care is leaps and bounds better than it once was, and less stigmatized. Even just finding some random person who you can express how you feel to can help tremendously. It’s tragic, but people can and do recover from these kinds of blows, the key is doing it in a healthy way.

  14. I’m sorry. While it hasn’t happened to me personally, my mum lost her dad suddenly and unexpectedly when she was 11, and I’ve seen and heard what that did to her family, it’s heart wrenching... That was in the 1970s though. The benefit of living in 2022 is that mental health care is leaps and bounds better than it once was. Even just finding some random person who you can express how you feel to can help tremendously. While nothing will ever fill the void left by the loss, people can and do recover from these kinds of blows. The key is to not rush yourself, and not try to do it alone.

  15. Yeah, but I feel like it’s taking a turn in this direction more so than in the recent past. I don’t think this would have been so popular 10-30 years ago.

  16. Here’s how I look at it, would you rather have people discussing serial killers of the past, or actual serial killers running amok terrorizing everyone? It’s pretty well established that the 70s-80s were the golden age of serial killers. IMO the recent glamorization has a lot to do with the fact that you don’t really hear about people like Dahmer anymore and today people are curious how a person gets to be like that.

  17. I don’t know how widely available it is, but if you ever see Corona Sunbrew 0% in the store, GET IT. Holy crap it’s so much better than other NA beers it’s not even funny. It doesn’t even really taste like beer, more like a mild malt beverage. Either way I recommend. Kind of sad to not see it mentioned in the comments.

  18. I didn't want to die, went to rehab, learned a few things, tried the AA thing, but that's just religion.

  19. I'd agree with that take. At least us millennials got to enjoy the 90's.

  20. Depending on who you ask I’m either a very late millennial or very early gen Z. I technically remember the 90s, but just barely. My earliest memory that I’ve been able to assign a date to was a party in October 1998 (I’m basing this on the date stamps on the photos of the event)

  21. I'm 30, re-taking high school education, in a class with 17 year old boys. They're so fucking young jesus christ. Rude, disrespectful, noisy, smelly, disrespectful, messy, and did I mention disrespectful. I desperately hope I didn't act like that when I was 17.

  22. Keep in mind they were in their mid teens during the pandemic and were forced to do a lot of their schooling online so they missed a critical period of social development (through no fault of their own).
