Evo IXs have a rear diffuser
Well, that’s not necessarily the defining difference for the 8s and 9s. JDM came with the diffuser and the USDM came with the one pictured for both generations. My Evo 9 came stock with the USDM rear but someone threw the JDM rear on it. Because a lot of the parts for these generations are interchangeable, my 9 also has Evo 7 taillights on it. My other Evo 9 MR also has the USDM bumper.
You are right. But why did they not have a diffuser in the US while here in Europe(and I guess everywhere else) both the evo 8 and the evo 9 had a diffuser?

Still curious at what point does the spoiler have discernible effect? 80? 100? 120? All would be faster than I needed it to go. I had the 2.0L four, which got pretty busy sounding at highway speeds.
It always works but you can feel the differences at speeds like 100km/h + . Despite common belief rear spoilers do matter in FWD cars. For example the first gen Audi TT had no rear spoiler in its first year(it's FWD) , but they found out that the car was very unstable at high speeds so they added one
