Help getting into Tool

  1. Overwhelmed? It’s music, if you don’t like what you’re listening to, then listen to something else. No pressure to like them.

  2. Hahaha you're right. I think overwhelmed is the wrong word. I would very much like to get into them, I just feel like there is so much to know, and wouldn't have a clue where to start

  3. Choose an album. Start at track one. Listen til the end. Repeat or choose another album. It's music. It's not gonna beat you up and steal your pokemons.

  4. I started listening to Tool when I was 17ish, so I was a younger fan. I found 10,000 Days to be the most accessible album. Songs like Vicarious, Jambi, Right in Two, and The Pot are catchy enough to keep you along for the ride.

  5. I've been a tool fan since I saw the sober video as a 10 year old. The stinkfist video then blew my mind, not just the visuals but the music was unlike anything I'd ever heard. So yeah stinkfist or tack #1 off Enima (if that's how its spelled) I recommend starting there. Intolerance is a personal early favorite 4 degrees Eleven Lateralus Rosetta stoned Those are good tracks off each album.

  6. Don't be self-conscious about your hesitancy. I saw Tool when I was 15 in 1995 and Keenan exposed his genitals. So it's (or it was, I didn't return after that) that kind of band. It's cool to say that's not for you and turn away. You really won't miss much; avoiding Tool is definitely easier than avoiding R. Kelly's music.

  7. Try starting the way I did. Drip acid at 15 and listen to Undertow from start to finish while watching a gigantic fancy goldfish swim around his murky algae-filled tank.
