It’s the r/Melbourne daily discussion thread [Sunday 03/07/2022]

  1. i really hope that hogwarts legacy game comes out legit and doesnt end up being a flop like cyberpunk or fallout 76

  2. Ordered discounted Berlei bras from ebay as the last order had been ok (and Kmart bras have been bad). These ones are cut weirdly small compared to my originals/previous slightly smaller ebay ones, are less open cup with tight trimming to the point of quadboob and arrived reeking of chemicals.

  3. Anyone got any experince with second hand electric scooters? The 15-20 minute walk at 6am is killing me, and I’d love one of those new xiaomi ones, but given I’m parking it at the station I’m pretty certain it’s gonna get knicked.

  4. They’re still illegal on public roads/footpaths/etc (if over a certain power or speed capability) if you worry about that sort of thing

  5. For a 20 min walk I’d even consider just a regular scooter or skateboard? Would get you there quicker and you can just take it on the train.

  6. I love preston market jam donuts sooo much, the chokehold it has on me. My weird order consists of asking for the donuts without sugar hehe

  7. Time to have the “you need to pay me a fuel allowance if your sending me to the other side of the city” convo.

  8. My old carpentry boss use to do this. We all lived in the west within 15-20 mins of each other yet the bulk of our jobs were as far buttfuck North as you could get.

  9. i've mentioned this before but i buy pretty small chickens to roast and have eaten in a single sitting on more than one occasion

  10. Does anyone want to be friends with me? I guess I have friends, but no one who actually wants to do the things I want to do. I’m sick of boring brunches and parties I don’t actually want to go to - I want to go to the NGV. So, anyone keen?

  11. Always up for stuff. I hang out on the Meetup apps too. Quite a few interesting groups there doing a wide range of activities. Definitely recommend looking there too!

  12. I’m in the same position as you. Have friends but no-one ever seems to want to do anything…sometimes I even say I’ll shout drinks just to have someone get a drink with me :/

  13. Finally mustered the courage to try out for a sports team that does practice on Sunday’s. Pretty nervous going in but I had an amazing time and met lots of new people. My body feeling it now though, going to sleep very well. Next challenge is to make a habit of this and consistently go.

  14. I have to tickets to Trixie and Katya Live (Plenary Theatre, MCEC) tonight at 8pm, which I can’t go to. Does anyone want them? Or know somewhere to give them away?

  15. Bit concerned about Sammi as unusually for her, she doesn't seem interested in food - at most she wanders over, has a sniff and a sample, and wanders away. Usually, she's the one who'll hoover up anything Zooki doesn't get to straight away.

  16. I made a batch of crostoli. Put some on a plate to enjoy now meaning to take the rest in to work tomorrow. They're all gone. Possums must have come down the chimney and taken them.

  17. Where can I get good sourdough stuff around the coburg area? Not just sourdough loaves, but also baguettes, focaccias and stuff.

  18. Look up slowgrainsourdough on IG! They’re a sourdough micro-bakery in the north, I think they do random pop ups at markets in the north and home deliveries. I haven’t tried them yet, as I haven’t had the chance unfortunately :(

  19. Feeling a real cat shaped hole in my life, sad that my PR application has been delayed by three months as I'm reluctant to think about ongoing cat servitude seriously until that's sorted

  20. Was a part of a nude photo shoot/protest at the State Library this morning! Sitting on those steps at 8am with a bare bum was bloody freezing. Fun to wave at the trams though!

  21. Smoking a pork shoulder today, it has stalled at 145 for the couple of hours. Seems too low and is causing me stress lol

  22. I got to the food is free cupboard this afternoon while they were still unloading a delivery. Wow, there is a lot of bread being rehoused every day.

  23. Where do you buy your everyday, modern gold jewellery from? Shopping centre jewellers sell the same ugly stuff they’ve been selling for the past 20 years, and I’d prefer to support Aussie businesses than the usual go-tos like Mejuri, but I can’t find much that sells solid or vermeil, it’s all just plated :(

  24. The wonderful thing about buying a new chair from ikea to meditate in, is that you will get to use it immediately after thanks to the frustration built up putting it together.

  25. There are so many things in the world to be angry about at the moment that I'm sure I shouldn't be quite so mad about Netflix's adaptation of Persuasion. But. How could they??

  26. Why do so many people line up for Nhu Lan in Footscray when you've got equally as tasty banh mi at To's a few doors down? Just walked past about 40+ people waiting for Nhu Lan and only about 3 people in To's. It's regularly like that.

  27. I think there's a sort of tribalism when it comes to banh mi (and other culinary delicacies)... people think their banh mi bakery is the best, and they'll queue to show they mean it.

  28. To's do a vegan one too and it's amazing. And they are really friendly. I've never lined up fir the other one bc I'm too impatient to wait in a line.

  29. I woke up this morning dreading work Monday morning. This is how you know I've got a good job. Cooked enough pasta for what should have been 3 meals but ate it all for lunch. Yep, it's Sunday.

  30. If you're having a shit day like I'm having, I suggest to put on rotation some punk rock music: Read music/Speak Spanish and Paoyla by Desaparecidos are helping me getting through work.

  31. If I used PT more id probably consider an android for my next phone but I also like my iPhone not becoming an unuseable buggy mess after a year

  32. I was a loyal and lifelong samsung customer. Started with the Galaxy S1 and my last one was an s10. Eventually got fed up with charging and battery issues, which have plagued every Galaxy phone I've owned. I switched recently to a 13 mini.

  33. Me too, my tried and true Samsung offerings just seem meh lately but the key anchor point for me is Myki on Android =\

  34. i went from android to iphone about 18 months ago, about to go back. find the default keyboard and lack of google assistant plus notification layer inferior. but long term iphone users may well say the opposite.

  35. That’s a really extreme and unhealthy example of the impulsivity that comes with ADHD. The impulsivity she can MAYBE blame on ADHD but not the complete lack of thoughts for the welfare of the animals

  36. How do bus replacements work? Lilydale line between Box Hill and Camberwell is having works soon and I'll need to be travelling the line. Is there special train replacement buses waiting at the station with the sole purpose of taking you directly to the other station?

  37. That’s exactly how they work. There will be signs and attendants around as well to direct you. However depending on the day there might be an express bus that goes direct and a stopping ball stations bus that stops at all the stations between Camberwell and Box Hill

  38. Yep and there’s usually signs and people directing you where to go also. There will likely be two types of buses, express and stops all stations to cater to everyone.

  39. Did the tourist-y thing along the Peninsula with visitors yesterday. The cable car trip up to Arthur's Seat gave us a ripping view of the peninsula and the bay, and the facilities at the summit were very nice. All within a manageable distance of home.

  40. Mustest get up, have things to do. But punkycat hath crawled under doona to snuggle and husband keeps bringing me crumpets. Hell of a dilemma.

  41. The universe has blessed me with abundance again. After using the last of my cucumber in yesterday's raita, I was very happy to find a small cucumber in the food is free cupboard today. This will make my planned ham & salad roll for lunch complete. 🥒 🙂

  42. Kitchen is clean, bathroom is clean, breakfast is done. Deebot is making her way around the house vacuuming, fresh sheets on my bed. Time to take the dogs for a walk and kid for a bike ride. Then settle in front of fire, minecraft for youngin’ and baking for me. Crispy Chinese pork on rice for dinner. I love winter sundays!

  43. I sat on my bed to put some shoes on and Gwyn decided to jump on me and push me down so he can sleep in my chest. Send help I’m trapped under a monster sized cat.

  44. I’m so resentful of the family I was born into. Both my parents are the biggest pieces of shit. My mum told my sister that she looked so fat in her outfit today.

  45. What an awful thing to say to anyone, let alone your own child. Sounds like really inappropriate competitiveness.

  46. Family finally got COVID, day two and I'm still negative. They are isolating to the living room, but I've made a makeshift crucifix and garlic necklace and once every few hours go in and exclaim "The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!!". I read on the internet this should work, I think it was via Fox News.

  47. the purgatory of waiting to see if your house is going to sell while not being able to commit to truly looking for another home sucks. Saw a placed we loved yesterday but our auction is in 4 weeks - seems like a waste to make a heavily conditional offer.

  48. Other way around is stressful too - I’d bought first in March 2021, then was trying to sell and got screwed over badly with costs as we got mega lockdowns of 2021. Was paying for staging, furniture storage, pet boarding and advertising when nobody could come out.

  49. I did exactly this. Had 2 dogs, basically grew up together and were bestest friends. One died at 10 years old, the one I have today was depressed but would of been ok. But, I got another anyway! Now I have 1x16 yo and 1x1.5 year old. The process will repeat.

  50. Getting a young ish dog is a game changer for a slightly older dog. We had a 6/7 year old border collie X koolie who had started to slow down a lot, we got her a 1 year old dog and it changed her completely. It was like she was a new dog! Obviously this varies from dog to dog and will depend on the dogs age. But might be worth looking in to.

  51. You may not have to worry about WD dying for maybe 15+ years? That's a longish way into the future and lots can happen before then. Also, depression is NOT guaranteed. May never happen. Maybe younger dog will relish having you+partner all to themselves after a long time of having to share.

  52. Had a headache all yesterday through lessons. And last night. And this morning so I’ve decided not to go to morning class but now I’m cranky I’m missing out on that.

  53. Breakfast 🍏🍎🍐🍊🍋🍈🍓🍇🍉🍌🍒🍑🥭🍍🥥🥦🥑🍆🍅🥝🥬🥒🌽🥕🥐🍠🥔🧅🥯🍞🥖🥨🧀🧇🥞🧈🍳🥚🥓🥩🍗🍖🥪🍕🍟🍔🌭🥙🧆🌮🌯🥗🍲🍜🍝🥫🥘🍛🍣🍱🥟🦪🍥🍘🍚🍙🐠🍤🦀🐙🥠🥮🍢🍡🍧🍰🧁🥧🍦🍨🎂🍮🍭🍬🍫🥜🌰🍪🍿🍯🥛☕️🍵🍺🍶🥤🧋🧃🥂🍷🥃🍸🍹🧉

  54. Trying to make some decisions about my future, posted an ad to start taking on new tutoring students, and considering starting teaching next year. A bit nerve-wracking, but im in big need of a positive change :) feels good to take action

  55. I’m becoming more and more glad that I never got my license. I’ve looked into how much it costs to have a car and it seems truly ridiculous. I’d rather just be pissed at metro and pathologically early everywhere
