1. Lol. I fondly remember the early 2000s. Gnome 2 with all the fun desktop animations. I did like what they tried to do with Unity in later years, but the Mir/Phone/etc. nonsense that they did back then really did a number on them. Then they went from the over active ADHD kid to dropping basically all initiative and doing upstream everything. That's certainly the other end of the spectrum.

  2. Unity is why I stopped using Ubuntu. It ran like crap on anything the didn't have a GPU and I was using Linux specifically because I couldn't afford a modern laptop but WinXP was too antiquated for what I needed.

  3. Fuck the spice. I want fixes for basic problems that have plagued Ubuntu for years. The first ones that come to mind:

  4. Realistically Ubuntu isn't all that bad. I've been using 22.04 and I think it's a pretty good improvement since 20.04. Atleast for snap, they've become atleast sort of usable imo. I still don't use them as I have no need. Apt is more then enough but atleast I don't have to wait 5 minutes to open firefox anymore.

  5. I remember testing the Unity8 beta and thinking “this is so slick. Im super excited to see what this is like when it’s finished”

  6. With this character's death, the thread of prophecy is severed. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed world you have created.

  7. In my eyes, the move to unity in 11.04 was terrible. I remember solely using "Ubuntu Classic". Then they proceeded to remove Gnome 2 entirely and shoved Amazon. Tried looking for VLC to play music and every god damn possible document or picture would pop, together with unwarranted search results. Moved to Mint and never touched an Ubuntu desktop since.
