This afternoon we arrived home to find my 11yo beautiful girl Kayla had passed away in our backyard. I am devastated I was not here for her when she could have been scared and wondering where I was. Our other GSD was with her and is so lost. I loved her so much, ‘my darling’ I’m so sorry Kayla

  1. I'm so sorry you weren't able to be by her side. Sometimes animals (including people) know the end is coming and wait until they are alone. I'm not sure if that's what happened with your sweet old lady, but it is possible. I'm glad your other pup was able to be with her, and in my experience, allowing the other dog to see and smell their deceased friend offers them closure.

  2. I have no doubt in my mind she knows how much you loved her and will always love her. Her eyes and smile radiate such relaxed happiness- that’s because of you and the love you gave. Grief is such a painful thing- but grief is almost the sign of love everlasting- we grieve because we love so hard and with that grief is a sign of that love. You gave her such joy and love and safety- you can tell just from the way she looks up at you in the pictures.

  3. I am so sorry you’ve lost your friend. Please find solace in the fact she passed away at home when she was ready. I had to put my bud down in February and it gutted me.

  4. I’m sorry for your loss. It looks like you gave her such a happy life. I recently lost mine as well and it was hard, I understand.

  5. For what it's worth and if it's any comfort to you, dogs typically prefer to be alone when they die if they can help it. They will often try to leave the house and find a quiet place away from everyone if they are able to.

  6. She was at the comfort of her own home, and she was not alone and had her buddy. She was ready. Sometimes I wonder if this is the best way to go then to have us crying and stressing them out when we’re saying goodbye. I hope you find comfort in remembering the life and love you gave her. She looks so loved and happy in her pictures. ❤️

  7. I agree. When I had to put down my 12 year old dog due to untreatable pyometra and kidney failure, I was a wreck. And my dog was too sick to even be herself which broke my heart more. Still haunts me even after a decade.

  8. it's not your fault dude, kayla looks like she lived a full and happy life. unfortunately death is inevitable in all of our journeys. you clearly loved her so much and gave her the best life you could, i am sure she loves you forevers. that is all we can do, give yourself some grace.

  9. Try not to blame yourself for not being there because you have been there for Kayla as much as you could be. There is not a doubt in my mind that Kayla knows she is so loved. I’m having to learn to accept and try to be grateful for all the time I’ve had with my elderly cat and dog. Kayla was a lovely girl and I’m so glad she had a loving home with you! Sending you gentle hugs and sending your other dog lots of love too! 💓

  10. Beautiful girl, thanks for sharing. I am sorry for your loss and will think of your sweet girl while I give extra love to my doggos.

  11. Very sorry to hear. A beautiful girl and no doubt lived a great life knowing she was well loved.

  12. From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry you lost your best friend and having to see her like that. She loved you and wouldn't have asked for a better parent. You did your duty. Keep her in your thoughts even if it hurts. She will forever be with you!

  13. I'm so sorry, such sweet and beautiful doggys. Please don't feel bad for being gone when she passed - I think she maybe waited until you were gone to let go so you were spared the pain. These dogs are smart and sensitive and know about such things.

  14. I think so too! GSDs are so in tune with their pack and knew how devastating it would be to put OP through such an ordeal. I'm glad she was able to have the other GSD by her side

  15. I’m so sorry for your loss💔 please don’t blame yourself for not being there when she passed away. She knew how much you loved her and cared for her, also she had her fur sibling by her side so she wasn’t alone at all. Take all the time you need to grieve and know that Kayla will always be there with you in spirit.

  16. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who offered me words of comfort. I am mourning my girl so much, but can now draw some reassurance that she had her sister Shadow with her and maybe she was trying to spare us and herself the pain by leaving when we were not home. I will keep a very close eye on her little sister and hopefully do the best for her while she to grieves. Kayla was the goodest girl, thank you everyone for your kindness.

  17. So sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl. Don't worry she knows you loved her and you meant the world to her!

  18. She didn’t suffer. She laid down for a nap in the grass under the warm sun and woke up surrounded by all the tennis balls, mud puddles, cookies, and long lost doggie friends she had been missing ♥️

  19. Sorry for your loss… sometimes, like humans, they wait for you to leave (from the Netherlands don’t know how to translate it but I hope you understand that I don’t want to offend you) cause they don’t want to hurt you. She’s beautiful and I’m sure you gave her the best life possible. 🖤

  20. I’m so sorry this happened to you all. Prayers for you all. She looks very , very loved ! She knew that you loved her very much!!!! Hope you’re doing ok

  21. I’m so sorry, friend. Your other pup was with her. I know it doesn’t make up for you not being with her but she wasn’t alone. She was a beauty, that Kayla, and no doubt knew how much you loved her.
