How do you personally tell a delusion apart from reality?

  1. When I'm afraid I'm slipping into delusion, I reality check with my wife. But once I actually am experiencing delusion, no reality check can convince me otherwise--I'll be able to superficially acknowledge that what I think doesn't match objective reality, but at a core level that doesn't shake my belief in it.

  2. I’m of the school of thought that once it’s a true delusion you can’t tell. It’s a paradox otherwise. How can you have an unshakable fixed false belief and believe it’s not true? Psychiatry calls it an overvalued ideation if there is some recognition
