Wow is all I can say

  1. Congratulations. Sounds like you've found a really engaging group and the motivation to dig deeper into the hobby.

  2. Shortly after getting my technician, I was keying some repeaters in the area late at night to see if they were actually active, many didn't ping back. Someone asked if anyone was there I worked up the courage to respond. Talked to the guy for a few minutes and then he had to go. I got a QSL postcard in the mail a few days later wishing me best of luck in college from the guy. It really spurred me on to pursue the hobby more, can't thank that guy enough.

  3. You'll find accurate information on websites like Repeaterbook.com can be spotty. They're updated by users. Personally I reached out to a couple of clubs and websites so I can help getting things cleaned up locally. And I would encourage anyone to do the same for their area.

  4. Hahaha, what IRC server would that have been? I remember constant random smurf attacks, trash viruses served via bot over DCC, netsplit wars, and edgy /quit messages from BitchX users. Mess with the best, die like the rest brah!

  5. That's wonderful! Enjoy the hobby, I've been on it for about 3 years now. Lots to do and learn. Lots of awesome people, and lots of non-awesome people as well. Stick to those awesome ones ;)

  6. Congrats on your shiny new ticket, and welcome! I'm glad you have made some great contacts right off the bat. You are quite fortunate to have some good ones on your local nets. I encourage you to seek them out. Meet them for coffee/tea/beer and get to know them. Not only are they kind, but wise too!

  7. Use the radio to schedule in-person events. I usually try to find out what they might need & help them, and you would be amazed at the doors it opens to you later. Great job on obtaining your license! Hope to hear you on HF sometime! 73.

  8. Congratulations to you. I've been a ham since 1992 and I love the hobby. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I love the nets as well. I check in to several nets, and feel very much at home and welcomed. You are treated as family. Have fun. I have a General license. Be sure and go for that! More HF privileges for sure. Again, congratulations.
