Gandang eksena nito sa Maria Clara at Ibarra. "Ang hirap mahalin ng Pilipinas. Anong pakialam ko sa Noli at kasaysayan eh everyday my life is a constant struggle in this miserable country."

  2. The lines of the prof are so weak.

  5. Baka open section? Ako kasi 4th yr college ko na din tinake yang Life and Works of Rizal dahil mas una kong kinuha majors, para sa 4th yr hayahay hahaha

Their newscasts are so awful, puro good vibes, social media, celebrities, and worthless trivia

  7. Off lang since Noli and Fili were taught during last 2 years in most High Schools (not sure now if same pa rin), kaya gulat ako college na si ate may Noli sila. Pero even if this was Rizal's Life and Works, medyo out of place nga naman siya sa latter years ng college. I thought the idea of these subjects/courses (Noli, Fili, Rizal) was to instill critical thinking, which other commenters already pointed out should've been taught in SHS.

  9. Hirap din makuha yung last point mo eh, had a Rizal professor who did try to connect everything that happened in Noli, Fili and Rizal's life to current day but she essentially warped the lessons to be anti-activist, conservative and in line with her way of thinking instead of trying to have the class come up with their interpretations. She didn't really accept other interpretations and would go into rants that is essentially her own life but she tried so hard to mix it in with Rizal.

  10. My Filipino teacher in HS was an soft spoken old lady. The grammar part was ok; she knew her stuff. Unfortunately, how we studied Noli and Fili were more of summarizing the story. Somehow it just became an exercise on how to interpret a text that's purely in Tagalog with some smattering of Spanish and dated Filipino words. Not much context or discussion relating to history, the struggles of Filipinos that it depicts, or even similarities about Rizal's life itself. Which is a shame because the first school Rizal attended was just a minutes' walk away.

  11. I studied in PLM (coincidentally the university used as setting in this series) at pinag aral parin kami ng Rizal. IIRC first year ko non, Gen Ed pa kame bago pumili ng courses for second year, so it wasn't too out of place. Ewan ko lang kung ganun parin palakaran sa PLM since it's been a hot minute since I graduated.

  12. Still though, Congress making a law REQUIRING a Rizal course might be bad in general because education should be left to educators like teachers and professors, not elected political officials.

  13. 'Referring to the mass shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, two weeks ago, Lopez said: “In a tragedy where 49 people were shot dead, it’s medical science that heals the victims’ bodies and minds, it’s art that inspires survivors to move forward, and it’s philosophy that forms ethics to prevent another moral disaster.”

  14. What she said near the end of the clip. I felt that. She gave up on any hope for the PH. That is the last thing you want the people of your country to do. Completely giving up on it.

  15. Love You, Stranger looked really interesting too based on the couple of minutes I've watched. Like a proper psychological thriller/horror with lots of twists. They also had mental health advocacy.

  16. Refreshing to see GMA shows with unique storylines for once. Parang ilang dekada nilang ginatasan yung kabit/family drama na plot.

  17. Kudos to GMA for giving Barbie this series. This scene alone proves that she can out act her Kapuso and Kapamilya contemporaries.

  18. Totoo nman na there are some subjects na totally unrelated and should not be in the curriculum on a specific degree/course.

  19. buong section ako nagdala sa class namin nyan nung college, most of them were super technically sound.,since comsci kami and non of them had either the time nor the patience to go through the history. kaya most of their reports, assignments or exams where either written by me nor eiterations of them, since most of them are working students like me and scholars that can't afford to lose those scholarship,

  20. Agreed (though not the main idea of the show) we can push this subjects to SHS if they want. While we let our college student focus on their "real world" subjects

  21. Kung tutuusin, the govt shouldn't even had had a law like that. But of course, good luck finding a lawmaker who will risk his/her reputation repealing this law. (Imagine being branded "anti-Rizal" or "anti-nationalist" if ever.)

  24. Kung wala ang Noli you would not even enjoy the freedom you have today. If today is bad for you, what we had then was way worse.. That's why we must never forget. Our country is suffering because of the liars and oppressors. Vote wisely next time..

Before that, I recommend for UP students to take PI100 and STS during your last year/sem kasi sila for me, ang culmination ng lahat ng natutunan ko sa UP - Science&Technology for the people. Sabi ng prof ko, ang approach sa Noli/Fili sa high school is more on literary side. Yung sa college, we discussed it deeper, hindi na chapter by chapter since assumption na yun na nabasa mo na ang books. So more on themes, inspiration behind the characters, the hows and whys talaga. We also discussed Rizal's other works, we analyzed patterns of struggle/revolutions, compare and contrast Rizal to our other heroes. And importantly, paano pa siya applicable ngayon na nagbago lang ang naghaharing uri from Spanish to rich Filipinos but some struggles are still the same. I remember noong 2000s, 3rd year or 4th year lang ang pwede kumuha ng kurso. And yes, hindi po kami pinamemorize ng mga jowa nya or trivia about his life. Wala kaming ganun.

  26. If Andres Bonifacio was alive, he will never stand with this kind of tyranny especially from his own people. It's sad that we're letting down the heroes our history preserved.

  27. Personally as college student ngayon, super thankful ako sa GEs and GE electives namin especially history, philo and rizal. Madalas swertihan talaga.

  28. Tbh, no. College is for specialized learning, bakit May general education na kasama. If wala kang natutunan sa highschool, kasalanan mo un. I'd rather read or watch through other means by my own volition, kesa sapilitang pagpapasulat ng essay kasabay ng assignment mo sa Calc.

  29. I really thought that during Rizal class we will dig deeper on his works. Like understand his stance (since he just wanted reform on how the Spain is handling the Philippines). But noooo, we just memorize all the names he got, how many siblings he have, the girlfriends he got while traveling. Like, we already have that since elementary

Pede sana mapabilis ung college, kaso ang daming walang kwentang subject eh. Like, bakit may PE pa sa college?

  31. college is for specialization, as much as I love history, some subjects are better of to be optionally passed

I’m glad she’s getting some recognition now. One other underrated actress ng GMA is si Kris Bernal

  33. Yow! This really hits!

Kainis kasi nangyayari irl

  35. Wala namang Noli sa kolehiyo di ba? Di ba sa hayskul yan? And for history, look where it got us tas tatanggalin pa in tertiary education?

  36. I think it pertains to the subject, "Life and works of Rizal" which one of the minor subjects need to be taken. A subject that focuses on Rizal and his important contributions in the Philippines

  39. Before I went to college, ang nasa isip ko rin, walang silbi yung mga GE. Dapat focus na lang sa majors. Pero after taking my GE classes, super na-appreciate ko yung program.

  40. Personally, I don't care kung merong GE subjects sa college curriculum. Kung meron, eh di i-take. Kelangan para makagraduate eh. Kung wala, okay lang. Eh di less subjects to enroll in. Ang mas may pakialam ako is yung minor subject na grabe magpa requirement.

  41. I'm im favor of Teaching Filipino subjects from kinder to High school, pero pag college kana sana namam focus na sana sa Subjects na related lang sa course.

  43. I was supposed a president's lister sa college except sa isang minor subject ko na di umabot which is drawing. The other year, it was suppose the same, kaso di naman umabot yung PE ko. Langyang minor subjects yan. We have 10 years of pre-college to learn these minor subjects. Tertiary course should focus more on specialized skill (your course); secondary should be more on vocational courses para kahit HS graduate may work kana kung di ka makapag-college. Sa elementary dapat lahat ng minor subjects.

  44. We need more of these na may patama sa socio-political issues instead of those kabit-kabit dramas. Iirc, the last season of My First Yaya was one giant "patama" during the presidential campaign season. The villains were also up for presidency and they did all kinds of lying, misinformation, slander, propaganda to tarnish the protagonists' reputation. But I guess the message wasn't well received since we have the exact same villainous president.

  45. The most powerful tool of oppression is keeping you so busy with the daily struggle that you don’t have the time to connect all the dots and become truly enraged.

  46. The problem of these GE subjects in the tertiary especially that freaking Rizal subject is that they tend to be repetitive when it comes to their contents that have already been discussed in the secondary-level subjects, so students don't really take GE subjects seriously.

  48. I urge you all to watch the show. Don't politicize it right away just because the head writer is an apologist, the production is composed of various brains that has different political affiliation or views or biases. Don't judge the show because it's "GMA kaya pangit" "Apologist si Doctolero Kaya sure magkaka historical revisionism Yan". Like seriously, tapos na Ang election sinasamahan pa Ng cancel culture Hanggang Ngayon? Let them do their jobs and judge it with the basis at hindi Panay hunch or palagay lang.

Laging halatang may pinapanigang side.

  50. Meron yata na kinuhang consultant. Saka maybe the point is to show yung point na mag-aral ng history by being in the Noli/Fili world?

  51. Ganyan ba talaga kadrama mag usap ang prof at studyante hahaha baka pag ganyan mo kinausap prof mo matawa sayo

  52. Iyak ng taong walang diskarte. Given na andito sa miserableng bansa. Kung walang diskarte sisi sa gobyerno.
