Today I heard a joke about Oedipus and Midas.

  1. Reading a joke like this is kind of a mixed feeling for me; like, I love it, but I'm almost bummed I didn't think of it first. It's kind of like when you fall in love but it doesn't work out, or when you hear the most beautiful music but it makes you sad. Damn, what is that word I'm thinking of? It'll come to me. ..

  2. Oedipus: He was adopted by a nearby country's ruler. He took over the country that he was born in and took the woman, who was his mother that gave him up as a baby, as a prize. He had four kids with her. He realized he was tapping his mom all too late, and gouged his eyes out so he wouldn't see his children that he made. This is the plot of Oedipus Rex, a famous Greek Tragedy. Antigone, another play, is about his kids.

  3. This may be my favourite joke ever and now I wanna tell it at every party I go to! Social exclusion, here I come, boy oh boy!

  5. Oedipus was destined to kill his father and sleep with his mother. He was removed from his parents house (a castle as they were royalty) and he never knew he was adopted. So he fulfilled the destiny without realizing it.
