Tez2's using the leaked Build IDs to speculate when GTA VI's development may have started, and expected Release Date.

  1. Damn previous speculations pointed to it starting development after GTA V in like 2014. I woulda figured another team would have started that. Or is take2 more of an all hands on deck (for one project) kinda company

  2. This is super simplified… On one hand, the goal with GTA6 is to take it to a whole new level - beyond what RDR2 achieved. On the other, RDR2 paved the way for a lot of the tech we saw in the leaks and it’s been speculated that R* uses RDR as a testing ground for new tech. So if the number of developers and budget stay constant (it’s pretty obvious budget will be higher than RDR2’s) then we can estimate that the main metric of how long it will take is: scope.

  3. They actually started working on RDR2 on the 360/PS3 and made the option to make it next gen only due to restraints on the older hardware. Was more than 5 years. Even the cast has stated it was around 7-8 years on it everyday almost

  4. It was 2,200 days of full production in terms of motion capture and recording. It wasn't until GTA V production was in its last 9-10 months in 2012, when RDR 2 entered that phase and gradually stepped it up over the months of 2013.

  5. Rockstar knows they can't delay this game twice or even once for that matter. They've added staff where needed and the progress shown shows they're making great progress. I'm fully expecting April 2024 or Summer 24.

  6. I say spring 2024. They said they have been steadily moving more resources towards GTA 6 which is why RDO content updates is so dry and will continue to be. Tez2 confirmed that the contract part 2 is on the way for Nov/December as well. I just don’t see them going back in for a 3rd part of the contract to release in Nov/December 2023. The criminal enterprise Update had only added a few missions and upgrades to the stuff already there, contact missions, and QoL updates (which we’re surprisingly generous). But yea previous July updates had added new modes and a spot to go to but this didn’t have any of that. Usually devs do QoL updates like that before they move on.

Also a contract part 2 doesn’t need to add much new since you already have the agency with Franklin so all the have to do is add story missions and missions playing as Michael and whoever he decides to pair with along with some new stuff from pay phone and contracts already there. Also we haven’t had a new Heist since 2020

  8. They stopped developing content for RDRO because it isn’t making them enough money. Did they stop development on GTA online for RDR2 or GTA 6? They didn’t and hell GTA online is the reason why GTA 6 is probably releasing 12 years after GTA V.

  9. Rockstar san diego had already started working on RDR 2(mostly pre production) before GTA V released then the other studios joined from 2013 onwards to help them with it. There was a leaked picture of RDR2 that showed Black Belle's hideout and it looked early graphic wise, very similar to RDR 1 too

  10. RDR 2 full production work took 2,200 days leading up to September of 2018 when it was submitted for manufacturing, so it started in overlap with GTA V development.

  11. I find the answer about right but the logic here doesn't make sense. When you start a new project, you're not going to do daily builds right from the start - a tonne of the ground work needs to be done before you get to that point. The "build IDs" he points to are more likely branch identifiers, and we know from GTAV that DLCs result in big jumps in those numbers.

  12. I dont get the logic though 5 build numbers in 20 days is a new one every 4 days which means 4.4 years at that rate, how has he only gone back to 2019? Combined with your point that there wouldn't be many builds at first puts it much further back.

  13. Damn I dunno man, if GTA VI is only going to be in development for 5 years it's kinda sus. This game needs to be the game of the decade and I only hope that they began on it from 2014.

  14. RDR2 still stands way above 99% of the other games on the market right now and gives them a lot to work off of. There doesn’t necessarily need to be as big of an upgrade to the engine compared to previous iterations so that time can instead be spent on providing detail and upgrades to game mechanics instead. There is absolutely no way any substantial development was done in 2014, the vast majority of Rockstar North was working on RDR2 until it’s release.
