1901: Johnson County, Indiana officials decided to move Nancy K. Barnett's grave to widen a road. In protest, her grandson sat atop the grave with a shotgun, in essence saying, "Over my dead body." Eventually it was agreed to build the road around the grave, which exists to this day.

  1. why would you even want her grave there? visiting her is a dilemma now. Got cars zoomin by as you place flowers on her grave. And imagine if people got into an accident there or drive over her grave??

  2. I just don't get this whole thing about honoring corpses or skeletons. Once consciousness leaves the body what is left behind is an empty meaningless shell.

  3. I mean I guess if you don’t believe in reincarnation or the existence of consciousness after death I can see why. It’s the difference between thinking an individual is the body vs the body basically being clothes for the soul.
