  1. Why is the oliveyoung app so damn infuriating to use?? Like the prices aren’t bad enough

  2. Unintended side effect that (maybe) prevents you from spending money 😌

  3. Can we just have a pinned FAQ post about legit retailers of AB, expected price markups, expected ship times, expected levels of customer service, etc? And have all questions directed to it? I'm as annoyed as you are by these posts today.

  4. If it bothers you (and others) that much, I'd suggest sending modmail. They may not reply, but if they see enough feedback, maybe they'll do something.

  5. This is just a little reddit community, admins are not customer service and aren't paid for this type of self-flagellation, everyone gotta do their part and not get fed with a silver spoon.

  6. I think you have something mixed up. Admins are employees of reddit, meaning they get paid to sit there and do the bare minimum. They are responsible for the whole of reddit and occasionally step in to suspend users for harassment and other things (supposedly allegedly). Moderators are volunteers. They manage individual subreddits and enforce subreddit rules in accordance with the guidelines they made up for themselves. Each subreddit has different "rules" to play by because they generally have different moderators.

  7. Thanks for posting. Somehow missed this earlier.

  8. Oh, true, I hadn’t considered personal preference and needs! I guess I was asking more of what has the same reputation as those two! Like when you start searching for high end western haircare, there’s tons of articles/youtube videos/hair stylists saying “buy pureology, it’s the best!” or “the best shampoo you can buy is oribe!” And they’re generally considered the two best brands you can buy, regardless of your hair’s needs. Hair care is my little luxuries so I like to splurge on them and was hoping to try some Asian brands for that:)

  9. Yeah...when I started on my haircare side-adventure, the "best" was Kerastase and Redken. I think the answer in western haircare for what the best is changes based on who pays the most in terms of advertising lol. But there's definitely no one-size-fits all brand, even for brands with extensive ranges. As such, I'd suggest figuring out your hair/scalp concerns (if any) before treating yourself. It's not a little luxury if you end up hating it or feeling like it's a waste of your hard-earned money, imo.

  10. I haven’t tried it but this looks nice

  11. Likely no. Other brands have made similar claims and gotten in trouble when it didn’t hold up to testing. The formula might be stable in UV for a long time, but on skin that’s sweating and producing oil and touching things it’s not going to hold up.

  12. It may be a case where it stays on the skin for 10 hours, but isn't protecting you to the same degree. Technically not a lie since they didn't say anywhere that the protection at the 10th hour would be the same as the 1st. But shady as hell.

  13. It’s not just where to purchase threads, but also threads about pricing, reliablity, offers, shipping times. These threads tend to lean very western (given the demographic of this sub).

  14. (Speaking as a westerner) I do get why people post, but think they belong in the ADHT. Or they could at least search for it 🫠 The shipping time consolidated post I'm referring to used to be in the ADHT's post body.

  15. Agreed. The pricing threads/posts especially are aggravating to me. (I'm in the US, so also a westerner.)

  16. I wish reddit hadn't done away with awards. I'd give you one.

  17. As an experiment I posted the links from the thread into a comment. I tried it on firefox and android and I was able to get the links to load. I pinned the comment, if you get a chance to try it, let me know if that works?

  18. Not who you responded to, but it works on my end. I use Edge as my browser.

  19. Thank you so much ❤️ this would make sense. I didn’t know that the romanized version was on the tin! Thank you again

  20. Don't be shy, share your experience about the tea shop! (And maybe your thoughts on the matcha itself?) 👀

  21. The tea shop was incredible. They had this incredible soft matcha roll cake, with a lovely cream filling, not too sweet and a wonderful umami flavour from the tea-flavoured cake and the matcha dusting on top. I’d never done a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and fhe experience was so peaceful and lovely. The “matcha cake set” they provided was ~1485 yen, and included a slice of the matcha roll and a cup of your choice of tea prepared in-house (I believe some options were matcha, sencha, hojicha, and a matcha cream tea that I was also very interested in). I elected for the Miyabi No In.

  22. Thanks for sharing your experience! It makes me want to go! The desserts sounds absolutely lovely. And so does the matcha :)

  23. Gotcha, I only came here a month after the API so my experience of the sub before the API changes are from reading old threads. Thanks for the context! ☺️

  24. There's a lot less user engagement with up/downvotes and comments. Though it's not like this community was as generous as other subreddits can be, the engagement is lower and it results in quite a bit of circlejerking instead of actual discussion of opinions. Quite a few users that used to leave informational and decent quality posts are gone now (and have deleted their content). As you can imagine, the discussion of product variety has also gone down even more and you're left with people discussing more of the same fast skincare brands that are heavily pushed by influencers and ads. And there's just a general lack of calling out misinformation as well. So the subreddit basically left with poor quality posts and the same repetitive questions that can be searched for. (Side rambling) I'm increasingly frustrated by the amount of posts asking about a product without specifying the product name for future users to search for.

  25. Thanks so much for the detailed reply ☺️ I appreciate your perspective of how it's all changed, it's really interesting to me as someone fairly new to this subreddit. I wish I was into skincare earlier but better late than never! For a sub this size I feel like there would be more upvotes but when I sort the posts by top of all time, it's mainly posts for several years ago now.

  26. In all seriousness though, I guess another part of the decline in active engaging users is because there's only so much you can talk about in terms of skincare products before it loops back on itself. And news/skincare advancements in AB are much less accessible to the English-speaking community, adding further to the stagnation of topics.

  27. Will have to sell my Apple Watch because it gives me se rather horrible pimples in my wrist. No amount of moisteurizing seems to be helping.

  28. This is probably not very likely, but is it possible you may have an allergy to the metals in your Apple Watch? Does the acne appear all over your wrist or only at the contact point of the watch's backside?

  29. I'm inclined to believe Yesstyle's ingredients list is machine-translated and potentially not always up to date. As

  30. Hi! Could you please recommend eye cream and weighted sleeping mask brands? Which ones do you use?

  31. As this is a skincare subreddit, I recommend asking in the help thread for eye cream recommendations. I think you can search "weighted eye mask" and pick from there. I don't particularly feel comfortable giving specific product recommendations for what I'm using. The products I did list in my comment were intended to note and distinguish between the different drops I use and nothing more, as I don't want people to blindly buy something that I use without seeking a professional opinion to see if they need to go this far.

  32. Do try to keep in mind that an influencer's job is not to act in your (the viewer's) best interests, but their own wallet. These Q&As are still a form of advertising at the end of the day, sponsored by the brand. They probably even have a script to follow to even be allowed to have a Q&A.

  33. A video from a Korean youtuber I've never watched before popped up on my feed about this product. I think the title was something like, "Why I didn't use the Reedle Shot – I checked the safety" but it was quite misleading because in the video she quoted

  34. You're right. More small companies putting out spicule-based products doesn't guarantee safety. As you've commented elsewhere in the post, it's not good to take what these brands are saying at face value. I'd rather trust a large company with a huge R&D budget over some small company that doesn't even manufacture their own skincare. But even then, skincare giants have done some questionable moves in the past. It's just that if they get in trouble, they have a lot more to lose. And they'd likely have to pay out bigtime for lawsuits. Though I am a wee paranoid and wimpy person, so I'm staying away lol.

  35. Have you tried contacting Little Wonderland? They seem to have a support email and an instagram page you could likely reach them at... IMO it's more likely that you'd get answers on whether or not they'll restock from the company itself.

  36. Are you implying that Sephora is better than Ulta? I'm confused by your last line

  37. I think people tend to associate Ulta with having less high-end products and shopping experience. Though nowadays, it's a crapshoot at either store for me lol

  38. That's wild! Sephora must have really gone downhill by the time I got into beauty because whew - the difference between the two (both working there and being a customer) is night and day. I appreciate the explanation because it's a viewpoint I've actually never come across haha

  39. Sephora's got a whole bunch of things going that make it awful currently (IMO). Aside from the whole "Sephora kids" issue currently plaguing the stores, VIB/Rouge benefits have been pared down. The samples and GWPs have become much stingier. Some stores don't offer the option to make samples in store at all; others limit it to only those with a pump. Fragrance samples made in-store are completely gone. And the employees are definitely not as well trained compared to before. I think the makeup/services in-store for Rouge are no longer free? (Don't quote me on this since I've never used the even when I was rouge lol.)

  40. 🫠Thanks for reminding me to make decluttering choices. Got all caught up in being interested in an alternative to the Melty Cream Lips so I bought the Nivea Deep Moisture Melty Type. That thing went and peeled my lips for a week 🙃 So I ended up doing a lot of retail therapy and have a bunch of things that just don't work and/or smell atrocious.

  41. HAHAHAHA Oh man why is this funny to me. Glad to know the Rohto Melty Cream Lips reign supreme once again

  42. I just wanna know how you keep track of all of them lmao. But I do concur, you have excellent tastes 😂

  43. How do you know which formula/year the Anessa spf is from? I picked up a couple from Tokyo in December so not sure which batch it is - is there a way to find out from the label?

  44. Well firstly, this new formula didn't release until late February. So unless the place you bought it from is secretly sourcing from a time traveler, you have the 2022 formula. If the place you purchased from didn't have any wrapper/outer packaging (which you can see in the links I provide down below), I'd be concerned about the product integrity first and foremost (because how would you know if it's been tampered with or not otherwise?).

  45. Out of Taiwan I think

  46. Oh no, my wallet is trembling at the though of smelling like Vietnamese coffee.

  47. Im mad that Shiseido reformulated the Anessa sun milk 2020 version! This is my summer HG sunscreen ....whyyyyyy did they reformulate when this one was perfect (for dry skin peeps)?! 😩

  48. In case you weren't aware, Shiseido (and other major sunscreen producers in Japan) generally reformulate on a cycle of 2-3 years. This is intended to keep the products up to date with the newest skincare technology and sunscreen filters.

  49. I don't mind, but they're not exactly in the general "affordable" range that the subreddit usually leans into.

  50. You dont use a normal cleanser after an oil cleanser?

  51. I don't always. But mine rinse clean and say they don't need to be followed up with a second cleanser.

  52. (Assuming you're in the US) I think there was a sale recently, which may explain a lack of stock. You can message them on their social media or shoot an email and ask. They may even be able to direct you to someplace that has the items you want in stock. I don't think anybody on this subreddit would know any more than you lol

  53. I think with milk and sugar, it becomes closer to a "London Fog" than Earl Grey. I'm unsure of how to feel about that drink name or how it tastes, since I've only had a sip of it at a Starbucks. I've rehomed the tea to a neighbor who seems to enjoy it so there's a silver lining 🙂 I appreciate you lots for trying to help me troubleshoot and enjoy things, whether it be games, tea, food, or skincare 🥰

  54. Lol London fog?? I feel like you may have mentioned it before and I don't think I've heard of it otherwise. I googled it. I did not enjoy that Google 🤣

  55. I did not enjoy googling the unique creations people have created with teas I liked either. Matcha and coffee mixed together is apparently something popular in my hyper-local area. I think it's called dirty matcha? 🫠 But it's their cup. So long as I am not required to partake in it, it's fine 😆

  56. I know this comment is super old, BUT I'm looking into the Amorepacific cleanser and the Fancl washing cream what one would you pick?

  57. Hi :) I've never used the Fancl washing cream, just their cleansing enzyme powders. So my experience and answer are both probably going to not be very useful.
