  1. What’s not “real” about iPadOS?

  2. It’s a subset of iOS that is often receives iOS features even later and is heavily restricted by the App Store.

  3. I question if the plan ever was to replace macOS vs. make a computer that runs iOS, an operating system people seem to like.

  4. I think there was genuinely a time where Apple considered the iPad Pro as a possible replacement for the Mac given they made a keyboard, added trackpad support etc and even questioned “what’s a computer?”

  5. I think you’re ignoring the fact that Apple really makes a big deal of its pro-environmental efforts. When you even have an infomercial starring Mother Nature you just can’t get away with stuff like this.

  6. Probably unpopular opinion; for some apps Flutter or React Native are good enough given the money and time they can save.

  7. This is what I don’t get. Israel has the right to defend itself but by obliterating civilians like this (and starving the rest) they’re just guaranteeing more aggression against themselves in the future?

  8. Don’t forget all the corporate purchases though. Any company that had even the slightest interest in porting their app over into a native UI is going to need to have a number of devices for developers.

  9. I guess but I think a lot of companies are just going to wait and see. They’re typically the slow moving ones, I think it’s mostly the tech enthusiasts like the other person said

  10. Yeah, I’m also the owner of my company 😆 I was tempted (I’m an iOS developer so easily justifiable as an expense) but I’ll regret it once they release a new one. Enjoy!

  11. Some great points. All I can add is for why some devs don’t just enable the iPad option it comes down to user experience - it could work just fine with the visionOS simulator but could be bad enough on the real device that people leave bad reviews etc

  12. A month before everyone else and with basically no fanfare, kinda weird.

  13. I’ll take this over a long live event with all sorts of filler content like RB…

  14. I dispute your first comment. I don't see any obvious benefit to using SwiftUI, it's not better or faster to implement as far as I can tell and I never had a problem with auto layout so I'm okay there too.

  15. You’re kidding, right? I just built a complex dashboard for my day job in SwiftUI in literally two days. Doing that in UIKit would have taken 2-3 times as long.

  16. So I’m in the same situation, but as a senior dev. It’s tough work, and I think like you said you could end up learning bad habits with no one to check your work. Could they hire a senior dev?

  17. I had a similar situation a few years back. The actual removal was fine, it felt a bit weird but no pain due to the anaesthetic. Just ask the dentist to talk you through every step they’re about to do and also make sure you tell them if you feel anything under the anaesthetic

  18. yes its amazing, but you can not do SwiftData with MVVM, and real devs do MVVM :)

  19. use react native if you want to ship both android and ios. facebook uses rn, the most used app on planet.

  20. I worked i game dev. Then in backend. Then web development. Currently I work as a native iOS developer and enjoy it much, but if the situation changes I will just switch to something better.

  21. Did you find yourself stepping down in experience when switching? Eg if you were a senior game developer did you then have to start off as a junior backend dev and work your way up?

  22. Being a senior engineer is more about your ability to break up tasks, apply skills and drive something to completion than the specific language or discipline. Once you’ve got a mental framework for how to switch languages it’s not that hard. (Hint: google).

  23. Switching languages? Sure! Switching industries/platforms? Not so easy, IMO. Was asking as I’m a senior mobile dev that will probably have to switch to FE/BE one day (little mobile demand where I live) and I don’t think I can just switch over as easily as I could to android, for example.

  24. Thanks for sharing, I never thought of this so I’ll see if I can update my monitor.

  25. No. Wait and see what happens at T-24. Their IT is shonky and glitches like this are not unusual.

  26. Given the level of disruption yesterday, you're going to have a nightmare getting through to BA in the first place but also there are people who have experienced confirmed disruptions who need to contact them to be rebooked.

  27. On one hand it sounds like a fairly simple task, but on the other, 1 hour is not a lot of time.

  28. This is extremely helpful; I appreciate you taking the time to write out such a detailed response.

  29. Might I regale you with a story of an estate agent getting their comeuppance to cheer you up today good internetter?

  30. Lol'd at your wife's response to the estate agent, really glad she did that (and that you spoke to the seller. In the country I live in now - this practice is illegal but it doesn't stop agents trying it - absolutely horrendous behaviour.

  31. Sales in general. Excluding the valid estate agent & recruiter comments, in my 12 year career as a software dev the story of "Oh, the sales team promised something that is actually really difficult/virtually impossible to implement?" has happened too many times. They always seem to get away with it, too.

  32. Odd, I only ever received one and once I checked with my accountant I ignored it and have not received one since.

  33. Food always tastes better when you are with friends! LOL

  34. Aw man, here I was thinking he just valued me that highly 😂 at least he trusts me! Thanks for the insight

  35. That's determined by a lot of factors:

  36. I'm shocked, but only because when I had my company back in London (similar setup) it was €120 a month

  37. That was the most puzzling aspect of the whole thing. Does Belgium have a weird American fetishist culture that I wasn’t aware of?

  38. Yup! Brit living in Belgium and the culture often feels more american than the UK.

  39. I normally split the bill after checking that it'd be fair - your friends should do the same and so you're not being an asshole.

  40. I'd wait. Also, any role that expects you to do both is just getting a serious discount by hiring one dev instead of two.
