  1. 25. Also pls message me! I have some questions ty

  2. In terms of writing / interviewing advice, “be authentic” is extremely generic and overrated. For writing, pointing out specific issues is way more helpful. For interviewing, there’s plenty of more actionable exercises, like remembering to breathe, smile and wave, learning how to stall more elegantly, or “imagine the best physician you can be and project that” (thank you, anonymous MS4). My only acceptance came from a T20 where my “why us” was by far the least authentic (mainly because one of the med students told us exactly what the adcoms wanted to hear for that question).

  3. What do you mean by pointing out specific issues?

  4. if I ask someone to read my PS, “be yourself” is much less useful than “paragraph 2 is very abstract and sounds inauthentic due to the generic language”

  5. Oh, I thought you meant something else entirely, like "talk about issues in medicine" instead of talking about yourself lol

  6. I've been to CPP's farm store! They can be pricey but the varieties give me so much inspiration!

  7. Haha, nice! And yeah, they've gotten expensive as hell compared to how they were four or five years ago.

  8. I've heard of Lovage but never tried/used it. I'll definitely check it out at the farm store! What do you like to use it for?

  9. What have you made in the honeycomb pan? Looking for ideas to use mine! So far I've made the honey lemon cake recipe that came with the pan

  10. Idk if this is a success but I submitted UNC’s secondary exactly at 11:59 PM the day it was due (OOS) and got an II.

  11. We're already seeing a high and unmet need for mental health and psychiatric care (including depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc) in younger folk

  12. This is awesome thank you so much for your wisdom! You are much appreciated. (From a tired, aging surgery resident who knows nothing about skincare)

  13. To make the transition to retinol (or adapalene or treinoin) easier, you can apply moisturizer first and then the retinol after. It minimizes the flakiness/irritation. After your skin adjusts you can put it on first then moisturizer after!

  14. CeraVe and cetaphil are both owned by Nestle. So if one hates them with a passion Dr. Jart is a good alternative. South Korean brand.

  15. I second Dr Jart's Ceramidin cream! That and Aveeno's Calm and Repair serum are my favorite moisturizers

  16. I was trying to work only with what I had on hand (I only had 1 egg!) so I used a different recipe for every element to try and cobble it together.

  17. Hi! Thanks for sharing. I know this sounds silly but how did you assemble everything? How did you make it look so perfectly round?

  18. I put the mousse into half-dome molds and froze them. Then place the frozen mousse on top of the sable cookie and pour the glaze on top. Easy peasy!

  19. I would put it on! I completely disagree with these comments. This is such a unique experience and if you're able to talk about it in a positive manner without bad mouthing anyone you'd be good. You also don't want to be in at a school that would look down at that kind of experience. And no, not all people reviewing apps are geriatric senile conservative doctors. There are plenty who are young and who are current medical students. This adds to who you are and your skill set and sets you apart from other cookie cutter applicants.

  20. I know a nurse who smelled really bad every time she'd walk by me. At first I thought she may not be taking a shower before her shifts but I realized it was her perfume. It literally left a cloud of what smells like rancid sweat wherever she walked. She changed up her perfume the other day and that's how I realized

  21. I scribe for multiple doctors and one doctor in particular would be super sweet and kind to me. We had a lot in common and I always had a good time on shift. This doctor when annoyed or upset at someone was very good at not letting it show to others but I knew because they confided in me a lot. I even admired for many reasons, including how well they treated others even when upset. So I wondered, if I did anything to annoy the doc, would I even know? Well I got really good at reading the doc when I observed them with others, and I picked up that they were also doing it to me. At first I didn't take it personally, but they slowly developed into more hurtful comments, comments making fun out of me, but is was all very subtle. I just never said anything and I'm still angry for staying quiet. I still am embarrassed and mad at myself for once admiring this doctor.

  22. Sure i dont mind sharing, you just might have to wait a couple days til im home from work to take a pic of my recipe book

  23. How are y'all wearing foundation/tinted moisturizer with it rubbing off into the masks? No amount of primer/setting powder or spray works

  24. Are these good served at room temperature or cold?

  25. If you make it an your in-laws, won't the consistency be too soft at serving time? Don't you need to freeze it for some time after running the base through the ice cream maker before serving?

  26. I think a question to ask yourself is if any of those factors (economic, social, educational) hindered you in anyway on your path to medicine. Have they affected your grades, extracurricular activities, or opportunities in general?

  27. I bought a case of like 200 shop towels (cotton, reusable) on amazon for like 30 bucks a few years ago.

  28. Great to hear! I’m happy to help with any tips as well since I’ve been doing this for around a year. I made many beginner mistakes that I definitely wish I didn’t waste time and money on lol. Also by the way, this was made in a bortle 8-9 zone. Middle of Amsterdam with some of the worst light pollution you can get. In a good light pollution free zone, you’ll see it much much better. I also don’t recommend starting with astrophotography right away. Do you have any gear already?

  29. Thank you!! I don't have any gear. I have an entry-level DSLR that I had from a long time ago (Canon t5i) but I don't think there's much I can do with that. Right now I want to be able to do some stargazing with the naked eye and learn constellations, and get a telescope so I can see planets and galaxies up close. I'm not sure if I should spend money on a cheap telescope or spend a little more. I'm not sure I'll get into photography any time soon especially considering the costs lol, but it seems really fun. I know some photography doesn't look like what you see through a telescope or naked eye (for example, the milky way isn't colorful in real life vs in photographs) so I want to go in with realistic expectations hahaha

  30. You can do this with most DSLRs and yours is most definitely more than good enough. Your lens will be a bigger limiting factor depending on what it is but you can take perfectly fine shots with the kit lenses that come with the cameras. Check out nebula photos for tips on DSLR astrophotography for beginners. Also what is your budget range for telescopes? I advise against getting any cheap telescopes and would say get a decent pair of binoculars first. Depending on your budget you can get a decent, easy to use telescope and a pair of binos but if you’re new to it and can only get one at the moment, definitely get handheld binoculars. Something like a 7x50, 8x42, 8x56, or 10x50 is perfect to use. You’ll learn the constellations well and see lots of deep sky objects you couldn’t with the naked eye. My Hawke 8x56 go with my everywhere I travel.

  31. Wow thank you SO SO much! I'm inspired to dig out my old DSLR from my shed. I was thinking to spend no more than $300-400 but I don't think that can buy much, right? I'm so happy you recommend binoculars. I love that they're portable roo so I think I'll go this route!

  32. So does that mean add the heavy cream after cooling the base for 24 hours? Also what do you do with cold brew concentrate? Also how and where does one acquire or make strong cold brew coffee?

  33. Add the heavy cream after you take the milk mixture off the stove! Then cool it in the fridge. This is the technique that is used in the other Salt and Straw recipes from the official cookbook so that's how I figured out the typo. When I made it, I actually heated the heavy cream and milk together and it turned out fine so I think the recipe is very forgiving

  34. Could I trouble you for all the steps for making strong cold brew coffee? I like coffee ice cream but I can’t stand coffee so I have clue how to make it

  35. I haven't made cold brew myself but you can find recipes on Google or YouTube

  36. Friendly reminder to fill out FAFSA if you plan to start school fall ‘23

  37. I mean I am a Muslim and spent multiple years raised in a Muslim country and in the US. Obviously a lot of people are different but from my experience in general I tend to have experienced that.

  38. Also Muslim! 🙂 I guess this goes to show that Muslims aren't a monolith because my experience is quite different
