  1. Flint dibble looks like he got aids from a blood transfusion.

  2. They still use it, but now it refers to the time of our childhoods.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a hateful word about him

  4. There's a certain point of maturity on one's development as a guitar nerd where you become 'aware' of how much technical skill is required to play most things. Think of it as a sort of adolescence, similar to a teen waking up to the broad-stroke social and cultural realities of their world and forming very simple, idealistic opinions about it.

  5. I agree completely. When I started 20 years ago (JFC) I cut my teeth on playing death metal. And I practiced obsessively so I got pretty good pretty fast. I think on a technical level I was faster and more accurate then as a 14/15 year old than now. All my guitarist friends went through this exact arc. Faster was better. More technical was more artistic. We built a stupid unspoken hierarchy based on who could play what. It took time, going to school for music production (which exposed me to SO much I didn’t listen to at the time), and generally becoming more proficient in guitar to realize that playing Polyphia at 1578bpm is amazing, absolutely; but writing a hook that actually sticks in someone’s head, or a simple solo but that makes you feel something every time, those things are amazing too.

  6. I love that you said this. We might be distantly related. In response to another comment in this very thread, I wrote this:

  7. No. Here in Aus we just had Russell Crowe on a sex tape yelling “Go Russ, Go!” at himself.

  8. If it wasn't like a screamed refrain that was everywhere, constantly, it'd be far less annoying

  9. Those fat screw-in anchors actually work pretty well, and a typical guitar hanger will use 3 of them. A "very heavy" guitar is still under 20 lbs.

  10. The only actually decent vegan ingredients are just regular ingredients which happen to be vegan. Any vegan substitute ingredient requires the suspension of disbelief to enjoy.

  11. Many of life's most important lessons are learned outside the classroom.

  12. Not exactly hidden since it's a scripted event that everyone who gets far enough got to see, but the inverted castle in SoTN blew my fucking mind at the time.

  13. Close-knit and cooperative, too. It's a good scene full of cool people.

  14. Tyler now runs Postal Recording. It's a pretty great studio.

  15. The direct Roy replacement is Chris’s Isaak, but he’s closer to 70 than 60. Career analogue would someone with an exceptional voice that was tremendously popular but has faded with time. Maybe with a cover hit to resurrect their career? Darius Rucker. Less popular, but equally qualified- Scott Stapp

  16. I would rather listen to Sebastian Bach wailing away, however weird a fit it would be, than the mid-range, uninspired yarling of either Rucker or Stapp.

  17. Lol, uninspired yarling? Have you heard Mr Skid Row lately. A wheelbarrow full of soaked cats sound better than that dude does now. At least Rucker can still hit half his Hootie highs. Alright, you want a metal guy that fits the Wilbury’s model- Damon Johnson. Vocalist, guitarist, songwriter. And still hits the high notes.

  18. Johnson isn't a terrible choice, but I really don't need it to be a metal guy. It just needs to he someone older than the rest of the group who is reknowned for having a uniquely captivating voice. You have to admit that neither Rucker nor Stapp ever received many accolades in that regard.

  19. I wish more of my teachers had been in doom/sludge bands.

  20. True enough. But I have been a teacher at several different levels, contexts, and countries for more than three decades. The profession attracts its share of less balanced folks. In my state, there is such a "shortage" (i.e., we don't pay enough to attract qualified teaxhers) that we are sadly sometimes scraping the barrel. This applies to "SROs" as well.

  21. Many teachers are wonderful, qualified, compassionate people who are a direct benefit to every student who passes through their classrooms.

  22. No….? Sergei getting a degree in architecture at Moscow U. doesn’t really have much to do with putin invading ukraine.

  23. But this flies in the face of the reductionist's blessed false dichotomy of thought, inserting factors that complicate a pure black/white binary that absolves one from the burden of self-examination. You aren't permitted to do this.

  24. Hire an assassin and murder them in inventive ways. Write a vignette for each one.

  25. Idk, but every time someone mentions “rolling” something, I always bust out the: “Roll that beautiful bean footage”. 😂😂😂

  26. The only exceptions are "rollin down the street smokin indo" or "they see me rollin, they hatin"

  27. He's hit and miss, but you can't say he's objectively bad. Especially since you also say you can see why some people enjoy his work.

  28. He's objectively less skilled at writing than the majority of authors who wrote Heresy novels. Whether people enjoy that or not has no bearing on it.

  29. I'm not sure on the "most", but yeah, I've met a few of those, they do corelate to the ones that don't like bi men, and it's quite plausible, I have nothing to actually oppose that.

  30. Well hey, I don't know about "most" either, if I'm honest. I certainly haven't studied the topic or read any research on it, so my estimate on the actual percentage of straight women with that bias should definitely be taken as the anecdotal ass-pull it is.

  31. I don't really think it has to do with them not being bi. Last year I think I watched a videoessay on biphobia that focused on how during the HIV epidemic (in the 80's or 90's I guess?) media portrayed bi men as "the gateway for straight women to get HIV". It might have left a scar in the image of bi men to women in general, no matter their sexuality.

  32. Really, then I wonder why Trump is still leading in the poles. Where are all these people you speak of?

  33. I have to admit, you're skilled at the game. You respond with something that only half makes sense, the other half ignoring or completely misrepresenting what you're responding to. That's a good trick. It tempts people to continue to engage, to correct your mistakes or try to force you to employ reading comprehension.

  34. lol not at all, probably just where I grew up. But I mean he was my only uncle who didn't get a diploma. In his defense he was a part of a pretty big metal band and went on to live the rockstar life for a long time before opening his own business. Never really needed it I guess. But def could tell that night he was a bit embarrassed by it haha

  35. As a metalhead I would love to know what band he was in, if that's not too personal

  36. 2010 reddit called, they want their correction comments back.

  37. If I pick up the phone, can I get 2010 Reddit back?
