I think the concept’s fantastic the price point is just wrong. They should be competing with or even undercutting splitting an apartment with roommates, but that price-point is way too close to a studio apartment.
I was in Kroger in cypress yesterday. People can choose to go inside the middle with the processed shit or go on the outside for more healthful options. Some of this might be financially driven, but if I see someone with 6 12 packs of soda and 3 cases of water with a cart full of junk food, it’s clearly not financially driven.
While I agree that a well constructed poll is good, where are we going to get that information? Both the city government and the police department have vested interest in skewing the information. But I can’t imagine either the Houston government or HPD ever engaging in mild corruption /s
forgive me if I’m stupid - genuinely asking - isn’t the title still correct? houston is a top 6 consumer in general - would it not have said per capita if that is the metric they were going for?

If you went in a Kroger, you weren't in a food desert.

A well designed poll is one possible source.

Correct but not useful. Without per capita numbers, you can't compare different cities in any meaningful way.
