  1. I'm glad you're joining! I just read Chris heartbreaking post about Apollo- I kind of want to stop using reddit all together but this subreddit and a couple other smaller ones are the reason I'm on the fence... they bring me some joy in what is a very bleak online world. Are there similar places for romance book readers?

  2. Same here honestly. I was supportive of the blackout and was angry about the accessibility issues, but I didn’t really “get it” until I read Chris’s Apollo post. My family is deciding to delete Reddit and move on with our lives. But this sub is really honestly one of my favorite places on the whole internet. I really value and appreciate you guys and your hilarious, bawdy, non-judgmental approach.

  3. I didn’t realize I had strong opinions about epilogues until I read one I didn’t like. It was a shame because I LOVED the book otherwise!

  4. This past year I actually designed a whole ritual for winter solstice, because I get seasonal affective disorder really bad. Basically just celebrated really hard that the sun was “returning”. I don’t want to be a bummer about it and do the opposite kind of thing for summer solstice lol, but I’m thinking about something similar now.

  5. If you’re comfortable sharing it, I’d love to hear about your winter solstice ritual!

  6. So, look, I hear you on Nesta. I agreed. 100%. But I read A Court of Silver Flame and holy fucking shit. I loved it so much. I think that’s an unpopular opinion. Nesta is still kind of awful, but getting in her head SUPER helps to understand her, and her journey through healing is incredible and unique. And the mains are still super snippy and bantery with each other, and they continue to challenge and conflict with each other throughout. I was not expecting to like it but I really, really did.

  7. Omg I would have cried! Makeup removal is such a (usually losing) battle for me at the end of the night. What a keeper!!

  8. My husband has started up his own skincare routine and has agreed to do it with me every night. At the very least it’s slightly more interesting and compelling to do when I have my best friend there to chat with while we’re washing and slathering on lotions and potions. Whenever I start going to bed he jumps up excitedly and says “let’s do skincare!” Lol.

  9. I’ll be honest, I was highly skeptical about it before I read it. I heard it was a ReyLo fanfic originally and read some negative reviews so I just could not force myself to read it. But let me tell you, I finally did and it’s one of my favorites now. Worst thing that happens is you DNF, best thing is now you have a new favorite!

  10. Side note: I have also recently experienced a situation that made me realize that “this started as a X/Y fanfic” is unhelpful criticism when it’s used as a standalone reason to NOT read something. I read Transcendence by Shay Savage earlier this year and it became one of my favorite favorite books of the year - but when I finished, so many of the reviews were slamming it for starting its life as Twilight fanfic. Obviously there’s some amazing fanfic out there, but when something starts with one source of inspo and turns into its own thing, that’s like…beautiful? Idk, Transcendence definitely helped me see my way past that as a reason not to read/like it.

  11. I appreciate your response! For me it wasn’t that it was fanfic that was the issue, cause I actually love reading fanfics myself. I’m just not a ReyLo shipper at all and while I like Adam Driver as an actor I just could not find him attractive and I was worried I would be imagining Adam as him the whole time. I ended up picturing him as Ben Barnes though so it turned out great for me!

  12. Oh no totally! Your comment just made me think of something that’s been on my mind lately lol. Got a little excited, sorry!

  13. I used that fabric to make a dress last year! It’s so soft and pretty! I wonder if I have enough of it left to make a top…hmmmmmmm….

  14. I don’t read reviews in advance unless I need to know about a particular content warning or something. Otherwise I usually just take my recs from here, or I’ll take a chance based on blurb.

  15. I didn't even attempt the remake with Anna Faris - you can't make this movie today and it's weird they tried. Even if the chemistry was there... it's just a bad move. Make a different movie.

  16. Oh I tried it. On a plane. It was so terrible. Missed the mark completely, zero chemistry, and gender-swapping the leads didn’t make it less icky.

  17. You’ll just have to trust us on this, I promise it was cute in the 80’s. 😬

  18. It was downright family friendly in the 80s. I watched it with my family. We quoted that movie in my house growing up lol.

  19. Sweet little note to go with one of my actual favorite movies. Just showed this to my kids a few weeks ago and it was a massive hit.

  20. Definitely, and I’m glad someone said it because I’ve been feeling crazy. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was around 38 so I spent my entire life building these immense structures of hacks and tips and tricks that worked for me after years of refinement that sort of “con” me into doing the stuff I need to do, especially that stuff that’s supposed to be “automatic”.

  21. Idk I bought a house four years ago and with the weird shit I’ve seen here I’m not sure boomer dads are as good at diy as they think they are.

  22. Ugh this infuriates me. This is not specifically about adhd but years ago I was suffering from very very bad depression (although I didn’t know what it was). People would notice when I was having a particularly bad day and ask if I was okay. The only language I had for it was “I’m just so tired.” And they’d say “omg me too I only slept like six hours last night!”

  23. in german we have a word for this feeling. lebensmüde which is lifetired directly translated and means beeing tired of beeing alive. It's used synonymously for being suicidal.

  24. That’s a useful word! Some days it was bad enough to call it the S-word, but most of the time it was just being tired of being alive.

  25. I know you say it’s a “super packed agenda” but that just sounds unhealthy for all the attendees, to have no downtime.

  26. No suggestions I just wanted to express my sympathies. My girlfriend decided 2 weeks ago that we’re flying out to see her family on Friday. Her mom already has plans, we are attending Mother’s Day, 2 birthdays, and seeing a different relative every day of the week. Thankfully it’s only for a week, my girlfriend wanted to go for 2 weeks but I put my foot down.

  27. Yes! I can act like I’m having the time of my life when I’m with other people while traveling but then I fall to pieces the second I get back to my hotel room. :( Good job standing up for your time! I hope it’s nice and relaxing and you get some down time during your trip!

  28. {Finn Rhodes Forever by Stephanie Archer} is my favorite of the Queen’s Cove series, followed by {That Kind of Guy by Stephanie Archer}. I absolutely LOVE this series, so good if you want something happy and light, but spicy.

  29. Question for you! Do you have to have read the previous Queen’s Cove books to enjoy Finn Rhodes Forever? I keep seeing it recommended so it’s sitting in my kindle library already but I don’t wanna dive in yet if I’ll be lost. 😬

  30. I don't have any suggestions, but I want this. Reminds me of Varrick and Zhu Li from Legend of Korra.

  31. I don’t mind the miscommunication trope if the miscommunication is the main conflict in the book. But I find it can feel kinda lazy if it’s thrown in to add tension, and ESPECIALLY if it’s inconsistent with the characters engaging in the miscommunication. Like, if you just spent 200 pages explaining in excruciating detail how capable, mutually trusting, and emotionally intelligent your two leads are, and then throw in a “whoops he used a word she doesn’t like and now she’s never going to forgive him” semi-plot to ramp up the suspense? Like why? Why do you hate your characters?

  32. Last week I read {Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter} that had this exact premise plus an anonymous texting complication. I thought it was super cute! The FMC might have had a tiny crush on brother’s best friend but that stopped pretty quickly when he started picking on her. Their dynamic is adorable!

  33. Listen I’m not saying I’m fully on OOP’s side here but the amount of cruelty I’m seeing for this woman in this thread is disheartening.

  34. I’ll DNF if it’s within the first third of the book and I don’t like the characters, if character voice is inconsistent, and/or if there’s no chemistry, AND there is no other plot line I’m interested in.
