  1. It’s hot and salty what’s not to like? Unreal on a cold day when it scalds your mouth.

  2. St Vincent next to the law court has a good wine menu.

  3. If you’re in the city centre, Kaltur is a relatively upmarket wine place and restaurant. There are two spots, both very central. St Vincent on the quayside is nice.

  4. Don’t think someone working for Uber eats could afford the rent/mortgage tbh.

  5. It's expensive because public housing stock was decimated and buy to let encouraged and subsidised. The homes per capita is on a par with most developed nations. To much of it is in private hands with high rents and poor conditions.

  6. And yet our building rates are much lower than peer nations and our vacancy rates are much much lower than any other peer nation while housing as a % of take home pay is amongst the highest.

  7. Jamie Driscoll has literally got a record funding from the Conservatives and has a working relationship with people across parties

  8. In my mind they want the same thing on transport, to essentially max out the powers available to them, especially on bus franchising and ticket integration. The main difference for me, however, is that it is highly likely that whoever is mayor will need to have a positive relationship with a future Labour government. Kim is obviously Labour central offices’s pick for candidate and you’d imagine she would have a more productive relationship with Labour ministers than Driscoll.

  9. I go to The Gym in Heaton by the big sainsburys. Has everything I need, busy after work but other than it’s absolutely grand for £20 a month.

  10. The obvious two are the North East’s UNESCO world heritage sites, Hadrian’s Wall and Durham Cathedral.

  11. Just a reminder kids. This still means everything is getting (at least) 3.4% more expensive, on top of the rises of the last three years.

  12. Not for the average earner it isn’t. As soon as you take out high earners that’s simply not true.

  13. Literally untrue. Wage growth excluding bonuses 6.2%, including bonuses 5.8%. Massive hikes to the minimum wage last year and this year. Since the period May to June 2023, real wages have been growing. Growth between private and public sector is almost identical.

  14. Clothes. The likes of Levi's/Wrangler jeans are overpriced to fuck here in the UK, but in the US they're dirt cheap and considered ASDA George.

  15. Eh I was in NY recently and bought a pair of Levi’s for something like $85. Definitely cheaper but don’t think it’s the absolute steal they used to be, especially when the £ was stronger.

  16. Yea i saw two staff stacking shelves and one bloke stood at the tills looking miserable. Welcome to the future more and more people less and less jobs

  17. Coming from a place of ignorance.. What's the significance with it being Ramadan and dates?

  18. Dates have a special significance within Islam so I assume they are eaten as part of celebrations/breaking fasts.

  19. Probably a minority opinion but I’m pretty relaxed about the UK having a relatively small force, especially the army. As long as we’ve got the troops to man our ships and planes, and then maintain the manufacturing capacity to produce shells, ammunition and future capabilities in case anything ever got really nasty.

  20. There have been huge onboarding issues with the services recently following high levels of applications. Something about the company who are supposed to process applications and onboarding fucking up or not having capacity.

  21. Homes England buying that plot of land is unambiguously very good for the city. Build a proper mixed use development right by the city centre and do the stadium on/near the existing site.

  22. Ukraine war and Covid have made economy tank recent years with all the extra borrowing

  23. Do you know that anything under £500m is considered a rounding error at the Treasury?

  24. Couldn't agree with this more. I'm from the UK but lived in a few countries and every time I go back to the UK I'm amazed how cheap everything is.

  25. Hiring a car in Ireland too! Absolutely crazy prices for a country that essentially doesn’t have a rail network.

  26. Purely selfishly, a proper Heaton stop rather than Chilli Road which is a bit out of the way.

  27. What? He led France to a world cup victory. Won 4 Serie A titles, 2 coppa d'italia, one EFL cup. Euros, Europa League and FA cup runner up.

  28. No one cares about the Italian league. Should have won multiple CLs with the amount of hype and obvious talent he had.

  29. Same way I feel about people nicking pint glasses from pubs. If they want to do it I'm not bothered, but I'm not doing it myself.

  30. I think pint glasses are better aren’t they? Pubs tend to get some promo ones from brewers which probably makes it feel slightly less bad.

  31. i have paid many many thousands of pounds to metro over the last 20 years. It has never been as bad as it is now. I don't blame people for not paying. You cant rely on it to get to work on time

  32. Not paying for public transport is grim anti-social termite behaviour. People who do so should be publicly shamed.

  33. bus fares are pegged at £2 for a single journey , from newcastle to carlisle if you desire . how are metro getting away with it !

  34. Because the government isn’t subsidising metro fares? Are you dense?

  35. If you’re going for absolute basic, then I could probably have jacket potato/toast with beans and a decent helping of grated mature cheddar cheese!

  36. Yep - jacket, beans and cheese with some dressed salad is our go to “we can’t be arsed to cook” dinner for when we’ve both had long/shit/difficult days.

  37. It has to be Atherton. Hoopers average is only 1 less and he has chipped in with 100+ wickets.

  38. Must be the Mossad agents infiltrating Newcastle City Council - stay vigilant!
