  1. You could get a joint sponsor that meets the requirements even if she doesn’t. She would still need to fill out the I-864, however, as she would still be your primary sponsor.

  2. I don’t think USCIS has any preferences on who the sponsor is, so long as they are USC/LPR and meet the income requirements. Could be family/friends of either you or your spouse.

  3. It's election season so it's time for articles about US debt. It's really weird that no one gives a shit about the country's debt until 6 months before an election. It's really odd.

  4. People have been talking about the debt for several years

  5. Almost exclusively during election season. It's not genuine. It's just the same old tired club being used to bash democrats.

  6. “Almost exclusively” That’s just simply not true. Yes the voices are heightened during election season. But people have been talking about it regularly for the last 2 years since the midterms, especially since rates went up and it brought into focus how costly new debt financing is.

  7. As if these people are given enough hours to qualify for benefits.

  8. As if that isn't problematic on its own. No one should need more than one job.

  9. Not saying they should. Just pointing out why its more than you think

  10. And it wasn’t because the next shopper got the crab cakes from behind the seafood counter. So he was just being a pos

  11. It’s hard to compare ‘normal’ hours - varies so much by industry.

  12. It’s high, you’re spending almost $100/day on it.

  13. Obviously up to you on whether you think it’s worth spending that much.

  14. Check your electric bill. ComEd has similar customer charges on top of the electricity supply charges. Heating with electric tends to be a little higher than with gas so there's that

  15. Yeah but you don’t pay two lots of customer charges this way

  16. Obviously you can afford it. Surprised this is a question. Even on a standard deduction with no 401k contributions you should have $430k/yr post tax.

  17. Glad you caught it, scary that he has so much information on you though.

  18. I’m more sure that was a scam, that sounds more like attempted robbery

  19. I take it “not a pm at all” means you are not in an investing seat? Don’t know any role at a pod shop where you clear $1mm+ without being in an investing seat though…

  20. There are plenty of non-investing roles clearing $1M+

  21. If Frankfurt really catered to that many high end business travelers they would already have a RC or St Regis.

  22. “If Frankfurt really catered to that many high end business travellers”

  23. May have missed that, can you show a link to only paying <10% income tax if you withdrew £1m from a SIPP?

  24. £50K/yr for 20 years. £12.5K is tax free. Of the remaining £37.5K 25% is tax free, leaving £28K subject to income tax at 20% = £5.62K, which is 11% of your £50K

  25. I mean that’s not quite the same as saying the first million is <10% tax, you’ve added a time dimension there.

  26. It really pisses me off that people still travel to Russia, become hostages and get used against Western interests. Stop being selfish, and stop going to Russia

  27. Why would Russia go for Tajikstan rather than Kyrgyzstan? If they take Kazakhstan, than Kyrgyzstan would be closer and easier since it would border them right?

  28. Given that all the stans are very close to China, I doubt Russia would dare

  29. I do worry it will be capped again in some way, either with a return to a LTA or reduced annual allowances. It's a pretty huge tax break for high earners right now. HMRC must be losing out on a lot of revenue due to it.

  30. Really they should lower the annual allowances (since who needs to contribute up to £60k a year!) and remove the LTA. That way they don’t provide as much relief up front and enable better planning by not imposing a cap.

  31. Doctors. It was done to keep older doctors working longer. They were very open about that.

  32. I guess, rephrasing what I said, I’m surprised that politicians don’t suggest scrapping the LTA and similarly capping contributions at about £20k/yr (I.e. similar to US model). That way you solve for early retirement while also raising tax by not allowing as much contributions.

  33. short answer - to live a meaningfully better life in the NYC/NJ than in London earning £150K, you need household income of $600K+ assuming renting and $1m+ if you plan to buy. The numbers you've quoted look familiar to banking, especially the likes of Citi and HSBC, so if that's the case then you need to add the extra hours you'd need to work + extra pressure given American colleagues in banking live to work due to insecurity. Also, depends on your age. If you're early 20s - go for NYC for the experience but if you're in 30s then not worth it as you'd not be able to create wealth / own assets (which should be your priority in 30s)

  34. Yes aware this would constitute tax evasion, but the question posed is around if it wasn’t declared, so not really interested about the points around it being declared because it’s redundant.

  35. For the cash it would be pretty easy to see that they had £300k in a bank account a year ago that wasn't included in the estate for IHT calculations so it would have had to have gone somewhere. I think you would probably have to prove it was not a gift especially at that amount of money. For crypto I'm not sure as I don't know enough about how their records are kept

  36. For sure, they would be suspicious as to where £300k withdrawal went, whether it was for cash or crypto.

  37. Like broadly not allowed to do options by your employer?

  38. Lot of employers that are financial institutions don’t allow you to trade single name options

  39. I'm onboard my first cruise ever right now (South Pacific on Ovation of the seas - Royal Carribean) and I'll say that the wastage and excess is pretty obvious. Most of the food is included and free in the fare, so the attitude amongst cruisers is indulgence. 2 of the main courses interest you? Fuck it, take a bite and if you don't like one who cares, move it to the side

  40. The irony is that the drinks package wouldn’t be twice as much if people weren’t so wasteful

  41. I've heard that there are very few civilians left in the combat zone. Hamas was preventing them from fleeing but Hamas are hiding in their tunnels now. The death toll in general has been very low the last few days, and most of those deaths were probably Hamas fighters.

  42. The 4 thousand or so children deaths were Hamas fighters?

  43. Yes, but then CC companies charge higher fees to the retailer in the US, so consumers end up paying for it through higher prices

  44. Your concept sounds nice in theory, but if they did all that, the Israeli public would have to tolerate rocket strikes for days. 🙈

  45. Well they’ve been tolerating it for decades, so that’s not the reason.

  46. And now that, after more than two decades, they're taking care of it, it's still not right? God, Israel can never win with you guys, can it?

  47. My point is that rocket attacks have been going on for a long time so aren’t the reason for not going in with ground forces instead of air strikes. It’s because they don’t want to risk Israeli soldiers lives. That should be fairly obvious.

  48. So they are just given immunity while hiding behind citizens using them as hostages?

  49. How about actually sending troops in there to root out Hamas instead of just blowing up civilians?

  50. Bingo, it's safer. Urban warfare is a nightmare. That's something they learned from last time.

  51. And that’s Israel’s decision. But the result is that loads of civilians die as a result of Israel’s actions and they can’t try to evade responsibility for that.
