  1. GRAND RAPIDS, MI - One man is in critical condition after an argument led up to a shooting Thursday evening in Grand Rapids, police said.

  2. Michigan Works! May be able to offer training support, as well as supportive services to get you through training for a new career path. While they are not a staffing agency, they do offer support and connections to employment.

  3. So much clutter. I can’t imagine what the shared bathroom would look like. Yikes.

  4. It’s included with the entrance ticket unless the event says otherwise (like build your own bonsai tree tickets)

  5. Perk passes are “sold out” until after the butterfly exhibit, FYI, but still an amazing resource!

  6. Call a mortgage broker to do the leg work for you and get the best rate. If I could go back in time, I would have done that with my first mortgage, but I’ve done it every time for a refinance and two other loans and couldn’t be happier.

  7. I recommend calling an insurance broker to do the work for you. West Michigan Insurance has been great for most things (home, business, car insurance).

  8. Check with the 4-H Department at MSU Extension. They have an embryology curriculum and handbook with local resources.

  9. Yea, but they don’t circle at low altitude like that. I saw two cross low enough over the highway that I thought they were crash landing or something. Also, nowhere near GRR. Not sure if there is an airfield that could even handle planes that size up there.

  10. I was at home watching/listening to this. It was pretty thrilling (scary) that a plane was so close the first time they passed. The lights were so bright/close and it was so loud I thought it was aeromedical taking off within a mile or so. It was very repetitive, maybe 10x over my house like that before I went to bed.

  11. I’ve only ever seen it called aeromed, seeing the full name made me chuckle.

  12. Blue Dog is great. To add - they only have 1 - 2 tables for large seating capacity and it’s generally pretty busy. Call ahead to reserve if you can. :)

  13. Are you able to obtain a reservation at MDRD for 8 in one week?

  14. Can you provide the names of the places and the administrative fees/costs you have paid to support other Reddit users from falling for these scams? “A popular apartment complex” doesn’t really help other or support accountability.

  15. I haven’t worked with Big Lake movers, but if someone in the future looks at this post and Big Lake cannot help them, Mighty Movers was the best price to move the contents of a 3-4 bedroom home, including work out equipment and appliances.

  16. I didn’t get a picture but I hope you find one. I made my spouse go look at it around 7:30. It was so bright and orange!

  17. If you’re asking what OEs wages are, I don’t work for them or have any affiliation but when I toured their facility the President boasted most members make six-figures. All registered apprenticeships have wage minimums and wage increase requirements as skills are gained, per the Dept of Labor/Office of Apprenticeships. There are MANY labor market reports that use real-time data to showcase wage ranges for various occupations. One resource/tool that you may find useful is the ONET website.

  18. There are probably many talented students in your school that would love to help if provided supplies. For example, balloon arches can be purchased for cheap, it’s the labor that costs $$$. Start with the drama kids, they set design experience or an art class to give practical applications to their work.

  19. There is a dedicated outdoor toddler area at GR Township Park across from Knapp Meijer.

  20. You can bring your own cardstock to print on at KDL (not sure about GRPL).

  21. Go to a mortgage broker. Team Mortgage and Mortgage Up are both locally owned and will get you the best rate - not only while looking at competitive offers from lenders but leveraging and using your buying power to save you money. Most of the times I have worked with them United Wholesale Mortgage was the lender and we have outstanding rates (including the lowest the title company had ever seen). They also close super fast if that works for the sale.

  22. Connect with Michigan Works! They help people get their licenses / credentials and love to connect with employers looking for employees. They also may offer upskilling (getting new licenses/credentials for incumbent workers).

  23. As another used suggested please do something with the disc golf course with all the extra space. Ever since the redesign of the course for the 2017 masters worlds tournament the place has seen less and less usage and upkeep. In my opinion mainly due to the extremely poor layout around the lake on the back nine or so holes and the large distances most holes require people to throw. The course is not fun even when you can somehow manage to play all the holes with all the flooding or other park users.

  24. Riverside is such a soggy course. And the redesign is terrible (imo). I hope it gets some love by the DG community.

  25. Michigan Works! may be able to assist with training at the GRCC Construction Management center (it’s in partnership with the Operating Engineers Union) or other training in trades. Lots and lots of money for Michiganders to go to school right now, you might as well take advantage of it if you’re eligible. Congratulations and good luck!

  26. It’s real and meant for very low income people and seniors to ensure they have safe/efficient homes. The program may cover things like appliances or windows, but it’s dependent on what type of funding is available. It’s through Kent County Community Action, they’re located on Franklin/MLK. The guys who did it in the past were Roger & Dale, super good dudes with various construction and masonry expertise, but I’ve seen the jobs be posted several times in the past few years.

  27. You could contact a camp that’s closed during the winter. They have licensed commercial grade kitchens that sit empty most of the 9 months when camp is not in session.

  28. Kent Co Community Action is sometimes able to help. A lot of people are struggling so funds may be limited and waitlists closed. $14M in state funding was just announced for Barrier Removal and Employment Success BRES funding and most of it will be coming to West MI. Personally, I would register with MI Works (who is getting a huge chunk) and see what training programs are available, register for training and tell them you have barriers to employment, including food insecurity and trouble with your utilities. Most of these grants have significant portions of supportive service funding to help people with anything from mileage and car repair to books and equipment for work, to required dental work. I don’t work for ACSET (parent organization of West MI Works!) and I haven’t read the entire grant application, but I assure you they are sitting on more money than they know what to do with.
