  1. I live in Newport. Although the temperature looks ok for Saturday, the winds are predicted to be 20-30 mph with gusts to 40!! Cliff walk is right on the ocean, you’ll be miserable!

  2. I forgot the direction of the wind for this past Saturday but Cliff Walk is very sheltered when the wind is out of the northwest. For much of the walk you will find the wind blocked by the high ground on the estate side. I walk (and race sailboats) all seasons around Newport and Middletown and wind and geographic sense makes everything a lot better.

  3. I assume the game in question is PLO. If so why is 5 card PLO better? My area (New England) is all 4 card PLO but if 5 card PLO is better (especially if it's more fun) I'm guessing it will eventually come here. My initial impression is having the extra card will lead to even more nut peddling but I of course could be wrong.

  4. Not sure if both meet your geographic or mealtime needs but I remember Blackie's in North Smithfield and the Rathskeller in Charlestown having larger groups tables/booths.

  5. Thanks. Love the Rathskeller and will check it out for big tables when I go for the outdoor music in the summer. English Muffin in Johnston looks like a nice place. I buy my outdoor garden plants near there next month and will check it out.

  6. It's a breakfast and lunch place has a few locations Cranston, East Greenwich, Wakefield

  7. Looks like a trio of good places. I'll check it out to see if they have the big tables.

  8. I've had problems with 510 cartridges in general and I tried to use the better batteries. But come to think of it many were Valorem brand.

  9. Thanks for the clip. DGAF has a combination of wit and knowledge that is hard to beat. He will be missed on HCL.

  10. My SO retired from nursing late last year at age 66. She is extremely healthy and plans to work about half time per diem for the next few years. I'm encouraging her to wait until 70 (January 2027) to take Social Security (s/b about $4200 a month if 3% inflation continues) and use the low tax rates that expire in 2026 to do IRA to Roth IRA conversions (her IRA is about 400K) and have her withdraw from taxable savings (about 150K) to fund any shorts in her living expenses. We are aware of things like IRMAA penalties and so on but may take one or two to get larger conversions the next two years. This will hopefully avoid the so called "social security tax torpedo" that kicks in with RMDs from IRAs over about 250K. I'll probably start a post in the investment or retirement subreddit to have them look at my math and estimates.

  11. Yes 25 K was the number where the sliding scale started as I remember but you also have to make a good estimate of other factors. A bunch of income is tax free (under current law the first 16K or so and the next 10K or so is at 10%,) A while back I was able to find an online calculator that calculates how much of your Social Security will be taxable using the combined income formula. RMDs kick in at age 73 but they increase rapidly over time. It seems you would want to make IRA to Roth conversions or withdrawals in excess of the minimum in the early years and also do some conversions or withdrawals from age 70 to 72. But that's for another day and I'll post my work for critique probably in the retirement subreddit.

  12. Thank you for getting back to me. Have all the information I need now.

  13. They made a mistake not changing the smallest no limit holdem game from 1/2 to 1/3 when they reopened after the pandemic. After years of inflation 1/2 NLH is too small. And the $60 minimum buy-in is way too small allowing short stacking OMCs and nits to stay in play forever if they chose.

  14. Calling a skilled UTGs open raise with this hand from the cutoff is a marginally profitable play against a weak playing typical rec (and consider reraising against a "fit or fold type") but a losing play against a highly skilled player. The button could also come in so you wouldn't be acting last post flop. I'd fold in this situation.

  15. Better not to include results, stack sizes are also relevant.

  16. On my Sony's it is. The Ethernet port is restricted to 100 mbps.

  17. Generally in limit poker the amount of raises allowed in multi-way pots was (back in the days when stud was popular) three raises in California and four in Las Vegas (and perhaps four on the East Coast). If a round of betting becomes heads up before the max number of raise limit is reached then you can raise and re-raise as much as you want.

  18. Okay well if they don't do anything (congress is good at that) then what happens? Is it a full reset to 2017?

  19. It would be a reset to 2017 (or 2016 which would be the tax year before the current law) but with adjustments in brackets, standard deduction, and personal exemptions for inflation which are for the most part * automatic.

  20. Thanks for the detailed information. Tonight we set up an IRA Rollover account for my SO's Fidelity 401(k) and 403(b) separate from the one for the pension. It seems we can do the actual transfer in a day or two online without having to submit paperwork. That's great!

  21. I would set up separate accounts for each of the transfers. Simply because of the complexity of tax law and the potential for changes that might in some way cause a problem (or money!) if the various accounts are lumped together. Over time if it's clear that it doesn't matter you can move all of them into single IRA and Roth IRA accounts and hide the old, unused ones. If they are left with $0 account balances Fidelity will one day delete them.

  22. Thanks for the information. We are aware of the IIRMA limits and the fact it is a cliff not a marginal rate (i.e., if you go one penny over you pay the full penalty). That said we may take an IRMAA penalty or two the next three years (before the 2017 tax cuts expire in 2025) to reduce her IRAs so that once RMAs start she can avoid the Social Security "Tax Torpedo" She will start taking Social Security at age 70 (getting close to the max) and if she avoids the tax torpedo she will pay virtually nothing in taxes on her Social Security.

  23. If you like jazz check out the bar side of Fifth Element on Broadway on Monday nights from 7 pm to 10 pm. First weekend of the month adds a good singer and it gets crowded. Occasionally Doug Wolverton (world class on trumpet) pops in and it can get crowded. Food is good there too.

  24. Your play was fine flopping a pair, gut shot and back door nut flush in position against likely aces. With a small SPR you can fade a possible flush draw held by your opponent.

  25. I have a lot of down time on my job too! My interest is live full ring cash PLO games only which as most of you know plays a lot looser and often less aggressively pre flop than 6-Max ring online (I can't recall even a single "one on one hand" preflop the last year I've played live!). Poker Jeezus is pretty good as mentioned but here a few other ones that seem to have promise:

  26. Nearby are Malt and Caleb and Broad which do well. Accross the street is Fifth Element which does fairly well especially when they have music.

  27. Two visits in the last month. One really good as the food rocked, ate in the outback. Second, the bartender was a complete dick to the customer beside me. He literally kept bypassing him to pour for others and then when the customer said, excuse me, the bartender snapped at him, I saw you and then continued to ignore him. No excuse, it was not that busy.

  28. I've had a similar experience. In addition prices for drinks were high and the drinks were small.

  29. In California on the smaller games it's a full drop on the flop (see note) and it would be in the neighborhood of $7 or $8 dollars or more including jackpot drop. Because of this just about everyone chops (and even then they take a buck or so IIRC). It's also a reason you don't see games with very small blinds and high buy ins (as you do in Texas or Florida)

  30. You don't even need to hand read or put them on a range preflop. Their range is all 52 cards. Postflop is slightly easier, because people are more value-driven than balance-driven. High VPIP players bleed money quickly, so when they have a lot of equity, they must bet.

  31. This is the right answer. Especially multiway the game is to play hands that are a favourite to possibly flop strong and once you do extract value.

  32. Or if an OMC limp re-rasing jam with aces since they can't play postflop and don't want to "get sucked out on" :)

  33. I have two 3-day passes to NFF and plan to take a different person as my guest every day

  34. Have them walk in with you or meet you at the gate. No way to break up the tix.

  35. I think I have the answer so Mod can remove. Stop automatic downloads!
