The point is not the number. "if say computershare has 60 million shares and gamestop is told to not report 60 million by the SEC. " and the question would remain the same.
We know 100% that this data is from GameStop's books, which are maintained by Computershare. There is zero reason to speculate and believe the SEC told them anything or that the DTCC reported any number to them.

That was the question. Did you read the answer? The were excluded because they, too, have their shares directly registered to them on the register at GameStop/Computershare. Previously it was inaccurate when they were announcing the count as directly registered shares, because technically all of the shares are directly registered.
I wasn't aware cede and co had a registered account with computershare.
I don't think this crime fits the type that could have been prevented unless social supports were mandatory for everyone forever. This is an adult male with zero history. If he knew he had some mental issue and was about to snap, he'd still have to choose to look for help. People with mental illness tend to not be able to do that.
Maybe the number had gone down right at the end of the quarter due to hedgies' manipulation of DRS numbers, so they waited it out until the number increased. Maybe they wanted to be able to report that approx 25% of shares are directly registered so they had to wait until that number crossed the 75.5M threshold. Maybe their CFO got sick and hadn't been able to review it. Who knows.
So 3 different answers to 3 different questions(why date change, why word change, why delay it) is more likely than 1 unifying answer?
