  1. Wasn’t expecting that ending! Thought this was a miniseries but looks like we’ll probably get season 2

  2. They should probably aggressively roll out the fix for driving way under the set speed before they do this. It's a solid update but I'm constantly having to give it more go pedal.

  3. Overall exciting episode, but pacing was wayyyy off (too fast, if you can believe that!). Could’ve probably used another 10 minutes or so to give some of the important things time to breathe (arriving on Halo, Kai’s death?, etc). And they definitely need more budget next season - a lotta cutaways from explosions/action, dark af color grading, and boy… you think video game motion blur is bad?

  4. The SFX timing of the halo theme could use improvement, there were 2 good scenes where they could have used it but I’ll let that pass.

  5. Yea but now instead of paying a clickfarm to boost, that money goes to Reddit

  6. Not being available in the app store is not a minor inconvenience. It is a massive deal breaker for the vast majority of people.

  7. To add to this: because all apps are cryptographically signed by Apple (I assume Google as well), not only can they remove it from the App Store, they can revoke the certificate which signed the app—which would immediately prevent the app from opening on devices at all. I’m not sure it’s possible to do this per region, but it could be done. TikTok would have to upload a new version for everyone else, and US users wouldn’t be able to get that update.

  8. Tbh, Halsey’s blind obsession with Forerunner science causing a Flood outbreak makes far more sense than Keyes opening the giant “don’t dead open inside” door at the bottom of the ancient alien basement on the ancient alien space ring.

  9. Definitely. I was also always confused about why there were still flood if Forerunners went so far to use the rings to wipe out all life (did it also not wipe out flood too?). They were just like: let’s keep some safe from Halo activation, because…reasons

  10. I believe Ken said himself that his resignation won’t be the big story, but the few that follow after him

  11. Great episode. This explains nearly every odd thing we’ve seen so far

  12. I thought Jo DID remember the early warning? At the inquest the other astronauts say they didn't hear it, but she recalls it. She mentions it's odd that there's no alarm on the video they watch because she remembers hearing it, no?

  13. Ah I yea I couldn’t remember if she heard it and they didn’t or vice verse. I think theory still holds though. We also saw in this episode that audio can carry between realities and previous it can be swallowed up entirely by another reality (her comms to earth).

  14. This isn't a Tesla thing. Using laminated glass instead of tempered glass is a "safety" feature on a few brands who claim it's less likely for something to come through the window and harm you.

  15. Does anyone else feel that this is 100% due to a foreign company taking away users from us social media giants? And has nothing to do with protecting people?

  16. Instagram moved back up to number one downloaded app, so no. And again, this isn’t shutting down TikTok, it’s forcing a sale and removing CCP as the controlling entity.

  17. Didn't they all evacuate Reach before the attack?

  18. Perez flew that ship off didn’t she? The one that ignited the gas leaked out by Keyes?

  19. I have a theory that these folks are all in a mental health institution and can't tell reality from fantasy.

  20. The stories they’ve been telling about astronauts in space seeing things (such as the orange glow/ angels) are plucked from real reports from real astronauts. The whole show’s premise was born out of these reports. Many former astronauts have said they experienced things they can’t explain, but don’t often talk about it openly they know it’d sound crazy. The show is creating a fiction around why this happens (quantum! lol), but the concept of shit being weird for astronauts in space is very much grounded in reality.

  21. Pretty sure low profile tires were invented as a way for people with too much money to just... spend more money. They're such garbage. Damaged tires, damaged rims, rough ride.

  22. Yes all those things are a problem, but low profile tires do help with performance. It allows for wider tires that have more flat contact / grip. The stiffer/shorter sidewalls means more immediate torque to the road (once the rim turns, the edge of the tire does, vs potentially some flex in tires with larger side walls).

  23. Right. Literally just future proofing their messaging encryption and it’s painted as a bad thing from people who probably use Facebook owned WhatsApp or whatever default Google messaging app is on their Androids.

  24. Not just proofing against ability to decrypt messages in the future, but also all your messages being collected and stored from this point forward.

  25. Oh wow really really silly rules. The internet is becoming annoying to use. I’m the uk we have cookie consent pop ups to deal with for every single site we go to.

  26. Thanks to the EU we (US) have those fucking cookie popups too.

  27. It's because of good ol' US corporate malicious compliance.

  28. I understand what they were going for, but the law was half baked. Sites always need to use some cookies to operate properly (which many try to hide into the dialog somewhere). There was a better way to do this, which could’ve been compelling web browsers to handle this so the user has more control

  29. So how do you get to the other ramp?

  30. These magical devices that teleport you to whatever garage floor you want to go to...

  31. Reading this minutes after a post on how China is now expected to reach peak emissions years ahead of estimates and is likely to start adding more clean energy to their grid than they need to cover new growth this or next year. So thats two super blocks of the world economy going over peak emissions right now.

  32. One of the very few benefits of communism: you can just decide to do shit and in a few years it’s done

  33. This is one of the worst things they ever did for Threads. It's like they don't get why people want a microblogging platform.

  34. Given the whole issue with Facebook and the 2016 election, I imagine they’re being extra cautious around political content on Threads. They’re probably going to wait until after 2024 election before they change their home feed algo to have political content, if they do that at all

  35. They should have done the opposite way: Let people that don't want politics to disable that. it would be fine.

  36. You can still follow political figures (@potus, news sites, etc) and it’ll show on your feed

  37. Feel like it should be pretty easy to figure out a timeline by combining our predictions of ice sheet melt with this study…

  38. Mood is one company I’ve bought from. Pretty good stuff

  39. Always great to see one of the worlds leading AI firms in talks to partner with a middle eastern dictatorship to work together to create arguably the most powerful and influential creation in human existence

  40. I think Altman truly believes that he/OpenAI will create AGI. I can’t for the life of me find the article, but part of the investment contract Microsoft signed when they invested in OpenAI leaked, and it had some important clauses (paraphrased):

  41. Here in the US, the Federal Reserve finally launched an instant payment service (FedNow) last year to replace FedACH. It’ll take time for all banks to adopt it, but many have already switched with Chase being one of the first.

  42. Yes and no, this isn’t really directly comparable to any other VR headset. Apple has been shipping the developer tools/SDKs for visionOS on iOS for years now - the first being ARKit almost 7 years ago. The new WWDC videos/tutorials that came alongside Vision Pro announcement in June are really just about porting your apps, and app design philosophy - but all the technical videos around working in AR space are from previous years.

  43. A big thing that makes it a fun game for me, is that no two playthroughs are 100% the same. The way it does world building is from start of a new game, it connects you to a server shard with a fixed number of players and their structures also populate your world and affect your buildout. for example on one playthrough the bridge to cross x river may exist but on next someone didn't build one there but you can, or you can decide to use a different route in absence of said bridge.

  44. Not in sense you can actually play WITH someone else. it's more of kojima's vision for a "connected world" spans shared structures and rep system. basically you are connected with other players in a way that you can see paths other players took or structures other players built. You can even friend or "link" to someone else you know on game center or even a stranger in game and then you'll see more of each others paths and strucutres cause they will be prioritized in your world.

  45. That’s neat! Only into Chapter 2 and I love the story so far
