Imo nothing beats driving with a wheel, even if you don't use it often I'd say go for it. It's super fun regardless and you'll probably find yourself racing more as a result

Did u have it on for a long period of time? If there WAS plastic pieces in it, u might have caused the melting of those plastic pieces which can cause the insides to go wonky causing it not to light
Take a small tool and press on the bottom part where you fill too too let all the air out then turn it too the lowest setting it can go then fill it up and wait like 5m and it should work if that doesn’t work just buy a zippo torch insert there like 15$ on Amazon and work with any zippo
