i use tags excessively, also „index“ notes for overviews, combined with types of sources and states (permanent, etc.) then combine these with dataview queries to show what is needed. and in the search you may combine whatever you are looking for.

The iPhone was successful because of skeuomorphism, which is the antithesis of flat design. It allowed for people not used to touchscreen devices to understand what buttons did, and what a button was in the first place. It got replaced with flat design when people had already learned using touchscreen devices and were ready for the switchover. Flat design is simply cheaper, it doesn't help the user much, and certainly doesn't help the user learn.
