Would it be difficult to hitch to St Mary's from E Glacier? Obviously it's a longer ways. Forgive me if this is a stupid question. (I'm coming in on the Amtrak, planning on staying in E Glacier overnight then setting out)
I’ve hitched from east glacier to the border two different times now and that hitch passes through St Mary’s, so that’s definitely plausible. A lot of people have to break up getting to the Chief Mnt border TH with two hutches, one from East Glacier to StM, then to the border.
I’m damn near close to leaving Reddit because of this shit. It’s terribly annoying and the worst part is you can’t get rid of it. If I was able to hide that advert then I wouldn’t care. But now I get someone’s stupid ass religion ramming down my throat every time I open this app.
Let's clarify that. LOTS of people you hike with smoke weed. None of the people I hike with smoke weed. In fact, I'd go so far to say that in all the years of backpacking I've done in Colorado and California backcountry, I've never seen anyone smoking weed. So there's that.
i’m planning on starting mid may, hoping to get to colorado early june. if it’s a super high snowpack, i might go sobo instead but schedule wise, starting nobo in mid may is what works best for me
I’m kinda wondering if a post may 16th start is crazy or not. I don’t know much about NM weather for the spring time. Had originally planned on finishing fall 23’
The Southern Reach trilogy. Great worldbuilding and a promising start, setting up tons of intriguing questions. But many of these questions aren’t answered because the characters just give up or give in, and others are answered in deeply frustrating ways that just raise more questions.
I couldn’t put these books down. But I was confused as hell throughout the 2&3 and ended with more questions than answers. Put the series down feeling frustrated and honestly a little dumb.
Ran into one this year just north of RMNP on the CDT. It was night and I was solo, the cat got in the trail in front of me and was walking towards me. When it got roughly 20 feet in front I turned my headlamp to the brightest setting and lit up the cat. I then threw my arms out to get real big and barked at it aggressively while continuing my walking speed towards it. The cat ran away.
Yea, if you need a gpx line to follow you should rethink doing a high route. Ideally you should be able to connect the dots on a map, some more specific notes in areas can be helpful during complicated route finding. I believe Adventure Alan has the guide for free on his site? That should be all you need
That's kind of my thought at this point, i don't really care about staying on the official CDT through Glacier, but i am planning a full thru. Given that i make it to Mexico, i'd be slightly disappointed if it wasn't a full border to border hike. As well as Glacier being one of the more notable sections.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think many glacier has a hiker/biker camp. So worst case scenario from Chief Mnt TH to Many Glacier can be slack packed in a day, especially if the ptarmigan tunnel is open. So that could be awesome with permits being difficult
Good luck on your tarp build! Friendly advice, jump over to the rules/etiquette for posting before the rule sticklers eat you alive. I haven’t checked them in a while but I think that’s why you’re getting downvotes.
Still have the LT5?

Relax buddy.
I smoke a lot of weed on trail. Probably more than most.
Starting at Crazy Cook on April 15th.
I’m think of starting around the same time. Good to know about the Amtrak.

I had no idea what you were talking about and then he started singing and I also started singing what just happened
Their tacos suck anyways, just another reason to not patron them.
I don’t think they’re talking about the taco restaurant
There’s a handful of places that will only hire young women FOH. Usually they’re managed by men though, so that’s a surprise.
I just didn’t have insurance.

I made gpx alts for a Teton NP route and the Dixon wrr
Jar with lid, pack of ramen, water from whatever water source you have. Let ramen steep 30 minutes w seasoning. Add spicy peanuts and enjoy.
Start with emptying the planters into a ziplock baggie for sure.
Sorry man, you’re in the Bible Belt. They’re all married w/ kids by 21.
There was probably 100+ different hikers in east glacier end of June/beginning of July this year, if not more.

Andrew Skurka sells a printable WRHR guidebook with a gpx file included. Not sure how much his route varies from Alan's though.
Looked over both of them, I’m not sure if I want to add skurkas into the CDT. Looking at doing it separately another time though 100%.

The issue is, I don’t know if I’ll have a printer available to me on trail.
For those of us that don’t know shit and have terrible internet right now. Where exactly is this?
I think cold soaking over a thru hike is a great way to become utterly dead inside.
My partner is joining me for glacier and we’re getting there the 28th and trying for walk up permits.

Elliot is shite there. Zero pace on the lad.
He plays the position differently, and he’s good at it. Up to Koop to figure out tactics that suite the kids strengths when he’s there.
