That's a really cool picture! Is the white tent standing in front of the hut on top of rocks because it makes the picture more interesting, or can you not sleep inside the hut? Or is there grass underneath the tent that we can't see?
Took this a few weekends ago to try out star trails properly- never really got them quite where I wanted them prior to this, although some tweaks here and there still needed.
Does the Z6 allow you to just set it up to just shoot continuous, back to back exposures (just using a time lapse function etc), or are you using an external trigger set-up for it?
Thank you. It does have a built in intervalometer up to 30s exposures, so no need for external trigger. I'd like to try an external trigger solution at some point, or maybe upgrade camera bodies. We'll see.
One of the things I've been experimenting with since I got an astro modded camera has been the idea of taking colourful night sky photos, without the need for extra filters. This is probably the first photo where I think I've found a process that works.
It's a blend of a sky panorama and foreground panorama from the same shot. You won't see this with your eyes naturally as our eyes can't see colour that well in the dark.
Thanks. It's not that one, it's the Tasman Glacier viewpoint you'd be looking for to get this shot. Gorgeous spot when the weather plays ball but that isn't often
I was there a few weeks ago, I wanted to take the shot after I saw it on a capture one tutorial. So it was a āto doā thing on my journey around the world. When I arrived there, it was so loud and crowded, busloads full of tourists all taking the same shot (zoom bottom right) It somehow lost all the āmagicā i was expecting when looking at the picture. In the end I didnāt do the shot and drove up to mt. cook instead.
Hahaha yeah. It's unfortunate you had that experience but it really is back to how it was pre pandemic. Frantic, noisy. You did the smart thing and went to the cooler spot imo.
Well I might try, but sadly here in the bay area the closest thing to stars we get to see are these retarded drones the military puts up some nights. They look like stars at first, but only to get your hopes up. After a few hours, they go away. And the sky is just gray black and empty again. š
Iāve definitely seen some that have almost brought me to happy tears. Unfortunately living in the Boreal Forest I donāt have many wide open spaces to choose from so Iād love to visit Northern Finland or Norway as well as Iceland and Alaska.
I don't really sympathize with the frustration here. I don't expect people to know everywhere I go, so if they're seriously interested, a simple search on your phone shows you what the place name is. It's easy to figure out these days... As for the second point, I could say the same about MÄori names being replaced by English names, with the MÄori name eventually being phased out. Like in this example. Other examples include bastardized versions of names, like Tekapo (instead of TakapÅ, which the council is trying so hard to change now, with serious resistance from individuals who are refusing to change their minds).
Love your image and the location. As a new Zealander by birth I grew up loving the country and aware of a lot of what is going on. Part of the language issue is tribal depending on which and where. Aoraki is also Aorangi depending on which tribe initially named it. The problem is one tribe is attempting to push their version into an area that was not theirs. Each had its own language. I grew up in both the North and South Islands, so am aware of the differences.
Thanks, and no problem. It's the distorting effect that comes with shooting a panorama. Realistically the horizon should bend as opposed to the Milky Way arm, but it's an artistic choice not to do that.
Thank you. It isn't really like an arch as it's directly overhead but it's hard to really accurately portray it in a picture. Still lovely to see though
What a capture ! Mesmerizing.
Thank you!

Thanks. The hut was full, hence the pic hah

Amazing
Thanks a lot!

Incredible shot!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it's inspiring in some way. Hope you make it here soon enough š
Very beautiful, could you explain the green and pink hues though? Is it light pollution/aurora australis?
Thanks. The green is just me fiddling around with colours trying to make it sit right- I'm not a fan of an overly blue night sky.

Luckily, it never gets old. Definitely something people should do as often as they can, in my opinion.
Wow!
Cheers!
Awesome photo! Thanks for sharing it.
All good, thanks for the comment!
What a glorious shot
Thank you!
Beautiful photo
Thank you š
Looks like a owl š
Ooh I do see how
Did you add the milky way into the image or is that an actual camera shot? Iām genuinely in awe that a place like this exists.
It's a blend of a sky panorama and foreground panorama from the same shot. You won't see this with your eyes naturally as our eyes can't see colour that well in the dark.

To the naked eye, you can't see a lot of colour detail but you can definitely see the faint cloud out here, Bortle 1 skies hit a bit different.
so cool looks like from another planet
Definitely does, Earth's kinda cool like that
Friendly reminder that your reddit coins will be gone in a few days, if you have any. So here, have an award
Thanks!
What is that glob in the upper right? Is that part of the Milky Way?
Nope, that's the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy
That is an incredible shot. Was this on the Hooker Valley track? I was there a month ago, I tried but couldn't get a decent shot of the night sky.
Thanks. It's not that one, it's the Tasman Glacier viewpoint you'd be looking for to get this shot. Gorgeous spot when the weather plays ball but that isn't often

This is really well composed and exposed. Canāt believe it doesnāt have more love. You drop it over in
Thanks a lot! I haven't, but mostly because I'm lazy. Sometimes hit and miss there
This really does inspire the imagination.
Thank you!
I want to live in the red house š„° AMAZING PHOTO!
Thank you!
Oh my, what a shot.
Haha all good, glad you like it.
I love it! Itās beautiful
Thank you!

Aw man. That's awful, I'm sorry to hear that.
Idk why I read this in an Australian accent.
I am a Kiwi, might be a bit of that hah
Who is the spooky long legged man in the sky on the left?
It's the man you don't want to see up there
sorry if this makes me sound dumb but are these actual in person picture taken by like a camera or is it like computer generated ?
It's all taken by a camera but I do edit it to make the detail etc come out.
ohhhh, do you by any chance have any of the unedited ones?:o just to see the difference between them ?
I do, but can't really send them via a comment. Feel free to PM if you want
How beautiful is the creation of our lord Allah.
š
Thank you bruh!!
All good!
Fantastic.
Thank you!

Yeah that's my plan later this year! Hopefully it works out

Thank you for the comment. I do forget about the tribal differences, but I think that's my lack of awareness on the whole situation too.
Very nice! Any idea why it bends?? Sorry noob question.

sefton bivvy?
Yep! Too many people up there these days haha
Holy Smokes! That's amazing! We have a clear view of the MW but it's just a band in the sky where we are. Not this beautiful arch. How stunning!
Thank you. It isn't really like an arch as it's directly overhead but it's hard to really accurately portray it in a picture. Still lovely to see though
