buffa-whoa-tasty

  1. lol CB Portland has a ton of off brand stuff posted too (the claps and single arm choreo) but honestly that’s worse bc it’s coming from their studio page vs individual instructors’ personal page.

  2. CB Portland is always posting wild shit, but people love it. Their classes are full. Same with CB Naples.

  3. I figured as much. Just came as a bit of a shock because you’d think they’d get in big trouble not just for doing it but for posting it.

  4. What I’ve learned in the last year is instructors are not employees of CycleBar but of the franchisee and the franchisee can run their studio within the parameters of what is laid out per XPO. Including opting out of corporate run promos, and what I can also surmise is corporate issued rules. But legalities fall squarely on the franchisee. So if this instructor does this off brand choreography in class and a rider gets injured, liability falls on franchisee not CycleBar.

  5. Pearl Izumi Vesta’s are on sale. Shoe + clips will be like $85-100. Having your own shoes is worth the investment

  6. My location closed so I teach at a nearby gym that has the same bikes & a nice set up. The best part is I’m don’t have restrictions. The only catch- not everyone is clipped in. If riders don’t have cycle shoes they use the cages so I don’t get too wild. But just having the ability to do my own format is amazing.

  7. wtf? No. CB has always been safety first and never both hands off the bike at the same time.

  8. I checked your IG and sent a message. I’m in the CSRA. Im not a dude or a scammer. SAHM who’s looking for local influencers.

  9. I heard about this. My SIL occasionally cycles at South Hill and she was pretty bummed to hear about the closure.

  10. Change how you create force. Look to sometimes pull up with your feet rather than constantly pressing down. Usually in the saddle I focus more on the pull whereas out of the saddle I focus on the push.

  11. Morning classes I take stim pre-workout or drink a caffeinated energy drink. For evening classes I dry scoop Ghost Pump which is stim-free.

  12. I’m a fan of Pearl Izumi Vesta. You can find them for pretty cheap online. They’re hard soled compared to Tiems. But hard soled cycling shoes means you can generate more power.

  13. I’ve put 28 instructors through training with only 1 fail 😭 I think I’m pretty good with prep and keeping people on track throughout. My 1 fail was when CB transitioned to online training so I have my conspiracy theories.

  14. Star focusing on holding rhythm in class over generating a ton of power. Be cognizant of which foot you tend to grab the initial beat of the song with. Knowing your lead leg is very valuable and a key to your success through the training process and beyond. Listen to your instructors cues. Make a note on your phone of cues or sayings you really liked, and write them in as soon as the class ends. “Reconnect to the beat,” “zip your core up,” “don’t fear the gear” etc.

  15. I love hanging out with my riders outside the studio! Some have become my closest friends.

  16. Are you sliding around a lot in your shoes? This can cause knee pain. Are you under pronated or pronated? Again how your feet teeter makes a difference on your knees. It’s not always because of cycling because cycling is a great low impact workout, but if the equipment you’re riding in doesn’t fit your body that’s a problem. Just like any workout. If you decide to start running with 3 year old shoes, you’ll get shin splints. Is it from running? Yeah, but it’s also preventable with proper footwear and form.

  17. Just updated to a few instead of a number. Why does this rule exist? I feel like I would want to know other women’s experiences and weight loss/gains.

  18. I gained a lot of weight in my first trimester and it affected my mental health negatively because of people who only gain “a few pounds.” I was tracking my calories, running 80-100 miles per month, and staying hydrated. But that’s what my body did and I think that rule exists because comparison is the thief of joy and pregnancy isn’t linear.

  19. I can see that, but honestly, I would love to know what everyone’s experience is even if it’s different than my own. To me. A few lbs is a lot considering I am and have always been petite. It impacts my mental health too from going to flat rock hard abs to having a little tummy with abs. To go from loving my body to feeling crappy about it because I don’t look the way I used to in my eyes and potentially will never go back to that.

  20. Someone on another thread mentioned there’s weightloss reddit groups and that might be better suited there than here. Good luck in your pregnancy. I’ll give the suggestion my OB did when I complained about weight gain, “it might be time to talk to a professional.”

  21. I’ve had 2 C-sections. I teach group fitness classes including spin classes. I got back to running and biking 6 weeks after my first c-section. Was back teaching a full schedule after 3mo. Second c-section I didn’t start running or biking until 12 weeks but I had some gnarly hemorrhoids that kept me sidelined.

  22. I went to a movie the day after my husband died. It helped me not think about the fact that I was suddenly a 31 year old widow. Fuck anyone who judges people for what they do in the aftermath of a traumatic event.

  23. I went to a movie after my husband died too! I think it was either the night of he died or the next day. It’s a little hazy it was over 10 years ago. But same thing being 28 year old widow fuckssssss with your self worth.

  24. You don’t need outside cycling cert. but once you become a CycleBar instructor look to get outside cycling certs. I think it is helpful in the long run but not in the initial run.

  25. ...but outside certs are discouraged by CycleBar (at least at my old studio). Something like a Schwinn MPower cert will train you away from the CB brand/instruction. They really aren't compatible.

  26. Schwinn certs of course will “train you away” because Schwinn isn’t rhythm based riding. But it sucks your old studio discouraged you from doing continuing education. Knowledge is power.

  27. Honestly, I would want something more than those dinky iPads. I went to an indoor cycling studio in France and it had like a huge theater screen like the size of the front mirrors at CB. You could have music videos or you could pretend your were riding at different locations around the world. I would want something like that.

  28. Yeah, no. The gym I go to has a cardio theater and it’s a ghost town. No one goes in there. They even play movies to watch while doing cardio and offer start times to when the movie starts and still no one goes. But the little peloton bikes where people can select their class times usually have a few people pedaling away.

  29. This was more like an immersive VR experience, not watching movies where you can just pedal. It also had programming with it, gear call outs, intervals, motivation etc.

  30. I had a rider years ago who was active duty military and he would run to CB do doubles and run home. His goal in every class was to maintain an average watts over 200. In both classes. It was his goal. He didn’t always hit his goal but by the time he moved away from the area he was hitting 230 average watts in one class and over 200 in the other. Personal goals are better than leaderboard goals

  31. Depends on owner. My studio doesn’t participate in free ride fest but we honor first ride is free.
