The idea actually stems from my disatisfaction with Rescue Team ending. So instead of going back home, the hero decided to stay in the Pokemon World. And everyone's happy, the end.
The identity-death part isn't a necessity (e.g. PMD3 did without it completely), but how the hero relates to those they left behind in the human world is definitely some interesting ground to cover.
And thanks to them, from a world-building perspective, the WiiWare games make marriage (or at least spouse-hood) canon to the PMD world. I've seen that come up in at least one discussion before.
All they had to do was get a pair of Kyurem-sized eyeglasses on him, and he'd be so grateful at being able to see things again that he'd let them pass.
That would work as either a straight-up lemon fic, or as an exploration of different attitudes toward sex/mating---along the lines of how many animal species don't actually enjoy sex (or even get much pleasure from it) even though their bodies all but force them into doing it. For a prostitute, it would be a pretty dramatic paradigm shift, and they would have to find a way of reinventing themself.
i mean to be fair 90% of the reason i like mystery dungeon is because i wanna fantasize about being a pokemon so fics that don't do that don't really appeal to me
Strong agree here, and I'd point out that PMD is relatively unusual as a fantasy franchise where the MC is "you, but as a Pokemon." In most others, the MC is a pre-established character with at least their own name, and possibly their own personality and history. And while it's still possible for a reader to self-insert as them, PMD deliberately facilitates it.
