  1. Then you can afford it any you only got rich because of the system that’s currently funded entirely by the working class fuckwit.

  2. The middle class pays far far more in taxes than the working class.

  3. No, they should close tax loopholes for the rich, not tax unrealized gains. I’m a democrat but damn it Biden what the hell. That would significantly delay my retirement which is already looking like utter shit. Also it will speed the movement of companies selling exclusively to public equity like BlackRock instead of IPOing because it’s easier to car easier to hide unrealized gains in a private company, which unsophisticated investors can’t access, only the ultra rich.

  4. Yeah that control is breaking down because trump staged a coup and took complete control on the Republican Party, but since Reagan until 2016 the Republican Party was in lock step in most of its messaging. But they are the dog they actually caught the car so now they have to message around things like banning abortion in reality as opposed to in theory.

  5. The tea party was a thing because it broke away from mainstream republicans, there’s also the fundamentalist wing. Republicans just like Democrats are and always have been big tent parties made up of lots of little “parties”

  6. Protect food from contamination by exclusively eating hydroponic, lab grown, and vertical farmed food?

  7. Imagine getting called for jury duty and having to deal with this shit. Why tf can they publicize ANY info about these jurors?

  8. Public transparency about the legal proceedings is why they’re allowed, unless specifically restricted with just cause by the presiding judge

  9. Hes was a president. It's impossible to remain impartial to a president

  10. Doubt, there are plenty of Americans that don’t care one bit about politics. You’ll never see it on Reddit though given how obsessed Redditors are with everything political

  11. Yeah no one gives a FUCK. He didn't make contact and was rolling away with his back turned to the gunman.

  12. I don’t think you understood. From the sounds of it both declined to press charges against the other for the crimes, so without the victim presenting their evidence why would the DA pursue the case? It’s not that there was a bad ruling, it’s that the shooting victim didn’t want the shooter charged at all.

  13. The first step of this guide should be "make enough money so that you can use the rest of this guide."

  14. Well yeah, making enough money to live is essential to being able to budget. That means you have to quit jobs that don’t pay enough and upskill/move to jobs that do. It’s not easy and it shouldn’t have to be this way, but that is how it currently is.

  15. I would die in America so fast because no one would tell me these things.

  16. Just spray yourself with bear spray to keep them away

  17. As someone from the US, you can not tell a place is "bad" just by looking or "good". You'd be very surprised in many instances. Maybe some places

  18. I’m from the US and I can tell you it’s incredibly easy to tell if a place here is safe or not. The list is basically:

  19. Just asking Americans, why can't they just send you a parking ticket to the home address that is registered to the car? Like how it works in literally every other developed country in the world?

  20. Tows are (at least nearly always) either due to a gov contract to tow those blocking a critical throughway like parked in the middle of the street or infront of the driveway to a public building and access is critical, like a hospital, or a critical parking spot where there is a sign that you will be towed. Or more commonly for a private lot like a person’s private parking spot in a apartment or where a college or parking lot has a contract with a tow company to tow off anyone parking without paying/authorized to park there. You can’t ticket them because how are you going to enforce a private ticket? And you still have a stranger/unauthorized person parking in your spot. So instead the person/company/private institution goes to a tow company and says you can tow people that aren’t suppose to park there, and the company does it for free because they make their money from the person that got towed. It’s scummy of both the tow company and a bit for the contractee but it’s free and gets the stranger out of their spot.

  21. They are seeing a high incidence of loneliness in upper middle age people too. Apparently it is more prevalent in the U.S. than Europe. There was an article today about this. And as one of those upper middle age guys, I can vouch.

  22. I dont think that’s accurate, first link when I googled loneliness rates by countries has Sweden, Belgium, the UK, Turkey as more lonely. Surprisingly it lists Russia and China as far less lonely, but I don’t think it’s being poorer that helps since India and Chile are still pretty lonely from the stats.

  23. Host alternating movie or dinner nights, maybe make them multifunctional. One night could be a secret Society meeting the next night could be talking local politics, the next night could be a theme like stargazing or some other.

  24. Politics night sounds like a recipe for disaster lmao, secret society and stargazing sounds good though!

  25. The saying I heard is that German Fanta tastes like the fruit orange, American Fanta tastes like the color orange. That's been my experience at least, so much better in Germany.

  26. Sounds like German Fanta is essentially American Orangina then.

  27. I’ve posted this before but summer Olympics should be permanently held in Greece, with the profits shared amongst developing nations who send athletes to further develop their sporting infrastructure. Winter Olympics can be held in a handful of locations where profits are likewise sent to any developing nations in need of funding for their sports.

  28. Yes except Winter Olympics should be held only in Colorado

  29. So it depends, whole fruit digests slow due to physical structure and indigestible material like fiber, which limits the insulin spike, and in addition it can have valuable vitamins and minerals. So it has benefits and disadvantages, but does convert into glucose. Fruit juice does not have the slow digestion so it is identical to soda if you added some valuable vitamins and minerals to it. Not worth it unless you are specifically deficient in a vitamin/mineral and don’t have a better option. I’d think of it like alcohol where to much to fast overwhelms the body’s ability to effectively process and eliminate it with minimal damage. So I’d say occasional fruit consumption is fine, but people should reduce or eliminate fruit juice from their diet just the same as soda.

  30. Plus, the fact that you get 96 hours of sick time per year, 88 hours of vacation, and 17 paid holidays? I've never seen anywhere in the US give anywhere even CLOSE to that much PTO.

  31. Oh wow that’s sad. I was reading that and thought “that’s hardly any time off, especially sick leave.”  Here we get as much sick leave as we want. You get sick, you get sick leave. For the first 2-3 days you don’t even need a Doctors note. We get something like 25-30 days off a year.

  32. Depends on the industry, it’s something a cashier or other unskilled would get, an office worker would get more pto. I get technically unlimited but averages out to 35 pto, any sick time under a week straight (short term disability if over a week long with a note), and federal holidays on top

  33. I get more than that as a just above entry level, it depends on your industry

  34. Normally, I am pro business where lawmakers shouldn't put limitations on a company making money.

  35. The eventual problem with regulations like this is it leaves economies technologically uncompetitive to the countries that don’t regulate it, until eventually it is increasingly cheaper/better/faster/sustainable and a foreign company gets let in due to popular demand for similarly advanced technologies, flooding the market and removing the same jobs in a less adjustable timeframe and causing the exact thing it was trying to prevent in an even worse manner. Besides shouldn’t it be our goal to provide better/cheaper/faster/sustainable services and goods?

  36. Which people do all the time. Oklahoma isn't a exactly a bastion of people with a lot going on for them.

  37. Yeah sure, but still, knowingly infecting people should come with a prison sentence undoubtedly

  38. Neither are Hawaiians. The reason I used Puerto Rico as an example is because we're both colonies of the US and we're both fighting for our cultural identity. Puerto Rico's birthrates in 2023 were third lowest in the world. We're being displaced the same way Hawaiians are.

  39. Special status is the result of treaties with pre-existing nations for annexation, not for preserving cultural identity. The US wouldn’t give special statuses for other merging cultures like the the Finnish immigrants of Minnesota to protect their unique Minnesota-fin culture either. Also Puerto Rico has the option for statehood or independence so calling it a colony is a big stretch no? It’s not subjugated by the modern US Fed, you have autonomy like any other state/territory. The Hawaiian special status is from the Hawaiian government not the Fed

  40. Psst: Hawai'i is a colony too. The US is a colonial empire.

  41. Hawaii is a State, how is current day Hawaii anymore of a colony than any other state? If Hawaiians weren’t US citizens then maybe I’d agree, but they are just as American as someone from Rhode Island. Hawaiians are part of the federal government. Hell president Obama was a Hawaiian citizen himself. Are you suggesting Hawaiians are actively colonizing themselves by not voting for independence?

  42. Yep. Have something to retire to. Never stop moving completely, seeing people, or having something to care about. Doesn’t have to be a job but you need a reason to get up in the morning and keep your brain and body engaged.

  43. Sure, but don’t let that reason be something as stupid as a full time job. Make it family, skiing, and/or traveling or something else enjoyable.

  44. In my experience at work you just have imperial or metric and the other kind right next to it in parentheses if you want. Fortunately everyone uses the same units for electricity. An amp is an amp pretty much everywhere

  45. Civils only use USCU, but that’s because the standards, regulations, quantities, and large prefabricated materials are in USCU. So rather than attempt to constantly convert they just tend to do everything larger than a 1/4 inch in USCU.

  46. I feel like it's almost worse for Canadians because of the culture bleed. We're a bit more global than the US in my opinion, but at the same time, I'm still 6'2" and 220lbs because ¯\(ツ)/¯

  47. What ways is Canada more global than the US? The only thing I can think of is the higher use of metric

  48. In the old days people would put you in your place and correct bad actions like this. People don’t today for fear of being labeled a bully or picking on someone. Society use to police itself. Now it just laughs and records stupidity

  49. In the old days they would have dragged this lady to the looney bin for hysteria and lobotomized her

  50. Airbus already got fined $4bil for corruption and bribery, doubt they'd try that again.

  51. And they probably made more than that in the process

  52. Hear me out on this...maybe they thought it was a cheese club and it was a group of people meeting up to talk about how much they liked cheese. Was this in Wisconsin?

  53. Sure. Being able to buy a cheap eightball of coke at the nearest gas station 24/7 sounds like a wonderful idea.

  54. Getting it at the gas station from a stranger vs getting it from a stranger on the streets. Same thing but only one is regulated for purity, taxed, and not funding a cartel that beheads people. Prohibition never stops drug use, it only makes the incentives to supply it as brutally as possible higher and higher. I’d rather starve the cartels.

  55. It is in our best interest to have a safe mexico. It would increase our own border security and safety of US citizens who live along the border.

  56. The only way to get a safe Mexico is full annexation, Mexico has been a dangerous place since before the Aztecs till today.

  57. our government, whether the 'liberal' side or the conservative side, is fully owned by the corporations.

  58. When? I’d hope he got at least 1 life sentence without parole per victim minimum. I doubt he’ll be alive after 77 back to back lifetime sentences
