congratulations!!! would LOVE to know more about how you got her to not obsess about the cats! our pup is 5 months old and it is getting better but oh so slowly. she just reeeeeeeally wants to play with them and is not reading their cat language. we redirect every time but unfortunately one of the cats is very antagonistic and territorial so it is extra challenging. what worked for you?
Well so my boyfriend and I moved in together in January. He has two cats. The 9 year old is also super territorial and definitely wants to be the leader. His 4 year old cat is sweet but over curious. Theyāve known my chihuahua Thor for a few years, but barely knew Ivy prior to moving in. Iāll add we bought a house so maybe having the house to be new to everyone helped? It was rough anyways tho.
My 8 month old border collie has started to bark at anyone and anything that moves. Wants to pull on the leash. But on the upside she is more lovey and cuddly now and is mature enough to not hurt her chihuahua brother who is 10 years old when they play.
My mom dying when I was 27. Before that her opioid addiction when I was 11, before that when all my siblings left by the time they were 15 and Iām much younger, my mom left for work before I woke up for school so I got myself ready at age 7 and someone came to pick me up for school, and then she worked after school hours too so I was alone then too or with friends.
Consistency between the both of you. He should be handling her more often then. Theyāre smart enough to know what they can get away with and with who.
My border collie that was 9 passed away this last summer. My 10 year old chihuahua grew up with her and they were close. So I got another border collie pup, he liked her for a week or two, then avoided her at all costs as she was way too rough with him. Heās a playful guy but has his limits in his older age now. Plus he had been previously injured on his shoulder so I had to keep a close eye.
So appreciate you taking the time to share this. Exactly what I was hoping to hear, and helps validate that time & patience is key. Thanks so much for your reply!!
Yeah I was worried I made a mistake getting her because of the age gap and just her personality as she come from a heavy herding line. Seriously he just need to mature and theyāll be best friends!
The benefits most certainly outweigh the risks. The only person that I know that lost a dog that was getting spayed is myself. And that was one out of 4 dogs Iāve raised.
Donāt beat yourself up. Doing the bloodwork most likely wouldnāt have picked up a heart issue. My dog died during a dental and had pre op blood before hand-my vet requires it or they wonāt do the surgery. Her bloodwork was fine. After she died while on the table we did a chest X-ray and found out she had an enlarged heart. š Now I did a chest X-ray before my current dogs dental. I know what you mean. Hearing that news just shakes you to your core but like you said the benefits outweigh the risks.
Ugh thatās awful. It can definitely happen even taking all the precautions. I try to just accept the fact that there is a risk, but itās not super common that something goes wrong. Iām very hesitant to put my 10 year old chi under for his teeth cleaning. He did fine the last time but has a slight heart murmur now. Still the benefit probably outweighs the risk tho.
Yeah my pup didnāt walk on a leash until like 16 plus weeks. This is normal puppy behavior. I rolled my pup around in her kennel on a fucking dolly in and out of work Bc she wouldnāt walk lol.
Everyone who has raised a pup was probably looking at you and thought it was endearing, anyone who hasnāt is probably thinking thatās why they donāt have a puppy. No one thought you were a failure or anything. Everyone knows pups eat everything, especially yummy roadkill. Itās alright.
Yeh, take her to a quiet park and let her watch from a distance. Share a snack or a picnic. That helped boy so much. He was well socialised from young. Then became reactive to all sorts of things as and adolescent and quite aggressive, even redirected aggression on me at times.
Thank you so much. This is exactly what Iāll do. I know with my last one it just helped bringing her everywhere with me. I have to be more intentional this time about going out to enough places. Itās like things that were fine arenāt now because she hasnāt seen them in a few weeks. So Iāve gotta keep it up.
Yeh, I was shocked how bad mine got as a teen and still amazed how great he is now, lol. He always went everywhere with me from young but that didn't stop him becoming reactive for a few months. I think some dogs take more training efforts than others and have quite different temperaments. Your biggest problem is probably her age. So keep calm and carry on š
Yep I remember my last BC being a weird teen too, but more towards other dogs than people, which I could attribute to some bad experiences at the dog park. I have faith sheāll be a well rounded dog by adulthood, but man she has me second guessing myself!
Was able to redirect my 8 month border collie from barking at neighbors and we successfully sat outside watching them. She was able to play with her toys with the cats in the same room without obsessing about them!
I would say try to get someone to stay at your house with the dog. One on one is always going to trump boarding in my eyes. But thatās because Iāve worked at a boarding facility and I know what can go wrong.
If you donāt know how to be manipulative thatās a good quality to have. Donāt try to change yourself. Find authentic people so you donāt feel the need to manipulate.
Yep genetics and also I started working out at a young age and was an active kid. Now I can start and stop working out and the muscle comes back really quick. I would attribute that to muscle memory? But I swear itās Bc Iāve been working on my abs since I knew what they were.
Aussies typically have their tails docked in the US. In the UK it's illegal to dock tails (except for genuine medical reasons) and the breed standard does not allow docked tails. Around 25% have a naturally bobbed tail.
Iād say alcohol as itās widely socially acceptable, at every adult event, and most people expect everyone to drink. If youāre addicted to it itās at every social gathering, games, on the tv, in movies, in songs etc.
No way!! I wanna see a picture. Also, does yours have allergies? Ivy has some type of allergy. And sweet had an allergy to fleas. My breeder said dogs from his lineage tend to be allergic to fleas.
Sure! Iāll send you a pic. Funny that you mention it, Iām taking selkie to the vet as soon as they open because sheās been itching and idk if itās from stress, allergies, or fleas.
Oh Jeeze, let me know what you find out. Im taking Ivy to the vet on Tuesday to do allergy testing. Vet thinks itās environmental, breeder thinks flea (vet didnāt see any fleas tho, but heās a young vet- heās never even seen a dog with flea allergy dermatitis and my first pup had it and it does look flea related to me too š¤·š»āāļø).

One week I work 48, the next week 16. Work at a long term care facility. 64 hours total.

And yes! What is up w the sudden barking????? Mine too!
So embarrassing wtf

Have since college. I have super fair skin and super dark hair. And a lot of it. I just couldnāt handle it anymore it looked too weird.

Idk people with adhd that I know blame themselves and see it as a character and moral flaw and feel they are ālazyā.
ADORABLE šÆ!
Thank you!
What a handsome boy!!

Yeah I like how they look when they donāt dock the tail
Aussies have floppier ears, theyāre generally stockier, with merle being a poplar coat pattern and blue eyes being prevalent.

Mine is a great great granddaughter of sweep as well!

I admire your perseverance
Well I like your perspective. Lol I gave it my all.
Yes, thatās what I say to myself too! I always give it my all. Itās one of the reason I know in the end that I should never look back.
Absolutely. Makes closure a lot easier.
