Both of my children have an UTMA for the reason you suggested. If my math is correct they will have enough to fully fund a 4 year degree if they wish. Alternatively they can use the money to start a business, down payment on a house, or whatever they’d like to do.
Just a side note, if you go with the 529 as most people are suggesting make sure it is actually invested. I read a story on here not that long ago about a person contributing to a 529 but it was never invested and found out when they went to make the first payment for college.

I also get to stick up for my kids when they don’t want to show physical affection to other people. When we leave from visiting family I always ask, “did you give hugs to everyone you would like?”

Some did respond and said they didn’t do repairs, to busy...etc. I really appreciated them getting back to me even with a no. I was wondering if contractors would appreciate the same thing.
