They tend to be overwhelmed by how little they're actually able to communicate and understand when they move here.
I've lived here for six years. I have friends who work as bartenders, waiters, bouncers. I have friends who own bars. Every single one of them is either a native Spanish speaker, or fully fluent in Spanish - even the bouncers. Because if you can't communicate with a group of drunk Valencianos in a noisy, crowded bar or club, you can't do any of those jobs.
