5. Safety. Bringing together the Me Too thing plus the overly obsessed fans who show up to artists' doorsteps etc, it's just a lot safer to keep fans and bands separated. Also with a newfound sense of health safety, band members really can't afford to get sick on tour and meeting 200 people every day of tour puts you at risk as well. I haven't mentioned the several terrorist attacks on venues/shows in the past years but I think that also has put a huge dent in the feeling of freedom and safety at shows. Basically, why risk anything if you can still make shitloads of money while you just chill by yourself at the hotel? A lot of music (some genres more than others) was for the outcasts, the kiddo's who felt misunderstood, a way to channel angst and anxiety. Now I have to say sometimes at gigs I feel like I'm either at a Tiktok Influencers party or a damn fashion show and the artist is just there for some background entertainment. People adopt a certain 'aesthetic' on social media and find artists to match that instead of the other way around.
